I don't get what the Macbook or M chip hype is about. I've been using a Dell Latitude with an intel 8 series cpu for work in the past 3 years. Recently my work issued me a Macbook with M2 16GB. I don't see any performance different when using productive suite, email and web browser. In fact, I feel that MS Office is faster in an old PC then in current Mac.

Nope completely wrong. you're entering macbook pro 14 inch territory which blows that laptop in every metric mentioned except when playing video games. and don't even get me started with acer's build quality compared to apple's lol.

My MBP 2017 always has the fan on during a zoom call etc. wonder if I should upgrade to a MBA or MBP
I've had MacBooks for 10 plus years. Now an air for 2. I'll never go back to one with a fan.

8gb ram and 256gb ssd in the year of our lord 2023?!?

8gb costs $15
256gb costs $15
Apple really couldn't double those numbers in a $800 laptop?!

My $300 used HP Elitebook laptop has 32gb of ram and a 2tb nvme.

so ask apple when we can add ram or swap hard drives.
tell them to stop soldering them on.

and apple is crapple as technologist one would never choose apple from sheer principle and DIY mindset
But they solder them on to make a better connection and for reliability. Jeez. Considering how many times I've had to open other junk brands, just to reseat the RAM and CPU, it's incredible what Apple has done for the consumer.

My 16gb/256gb M1 is still going strong years later. From what I've read the M2 has problem and the upgrade from the m1 isn't worth the price…if I had none id look for a M1 deal over an M2 or go for the pro

so what's the consensus on the airs now? I've seen so many issues with the display cables being damaged from normal use which causes the display to stop working. and now that they've been out for a while, it's becoming more apparent since it is "time" that was needed to see this issue. does anyone know if apple did anything in the m2 airs to prevent this? ppl say that the airs will last 5-6 years... well not if the display ribbon cable isn't properly protected and fails due to damage from normal usage. i'm sure an apple consumer will just be like "pay for the apple care" but then it's like... ??? i'm buying a product that is defective and apple care is basically required now? it's crazy how many ppl say apple products are quality products but then they always say you better get apple care tho... if it was quality.. u wouldn't need apple care
Legit never heard of this issue
