Yes, your assumption is mostly correct. The HS series from AMD is equivalent to Intel's H series and AMD's HX series is comparable to Intel's HX series.
However, due to higher efficiency ebnabling it to keep high clock speed in long running work loads, I have seen in Notebookcheck.net reviews that 7940HS can match 13700HX performance some times.
Nitro is one tier lower than Helios but this year, Acer has improved Nitro 16's design a lot and it is pretty good in terms of build quality. The case is mostly plastic but very rigid. Check out the below review (same GPU but lower end 7735HS) to get an idea of the build quality. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Ace...387.0.html
This is a pretty solid deal in my opnion and I will prefer this over Lenovo's Legion Pro 5 and Slim 5 series for 2023. Loos like in 2023, they are the only Company apart from Asus, offering USB4 for all their refreshed Zen 3+ and Zen 4 based Gaming laptops. Performance wise, it can utilize the full potential of the CPU and the GPU without any thermal Throttling. I just wish they have an RTX 4080 model with AMD CPU but sadly Nitro series is currently maxed out to 4070.
And another thing is all the QHD+ panel in Nitro series are 500-nits, unlike Lenovo's 2023 models where they have that 300-nits panel as standard and 500-nits panel is extra upgrade.

anyone benchmarked the 7940HS vs an 13700 HX and 13700H ?
the 7940HS should be faster than 13700H but slower than 13700 HX
someone and confirm this ?
also is the Nitro build better than the Helios builds ?

This--but with one addendum: you can get a laptop from pre-BF sales if they have a good return policy, and return it unopened if you score a better BF deal.
