Sounds like you need to replace your outlet. The contacts inside the outlet will become lose over time if plugs get bumped while plugged in or if you aren't inserting/unplugging plugs straight.

I have about 30 of these around the house for various devices. They work great and are very reliable. Also they can tie into Home Assistant for automations. Recommended.

While some devices will at least remember their previous state (before they lost power due to these switching off), most electronic devices I've come across will default to the "off" state when their power gets restored, making these pointless if your goal is to turn things on. Usually works fine for completely analog devices, but those are getting pretty rare nowadays outside of basic lamps.

Thanks, got two 2 packs. I've been happy with the couple Kasa smart plugs I have now. I got a Wyze smart plug last year on a $5 Alexa deal. It lasted a couple weeks, and the replacement only lasted a couple more. I've had the Kasa ones for close to a year now, and have been very happy. I am hard of hearing, and I have my bedside lamp turn on in the morning as an alarm.

These get more use at Christmas time, but it's good to have a couple extra around for when a use arises.

Do you have one of these?

And if you read my post, no, that is not the issue. These were bought new less than 3 months ago, and all the EP10 smartplugs I got were like that out of the box. The issue isn't that the contacts became loose, it's because they only connect at the very end of the prongs. Most electrical outlets have spring contacts through most of the insertion length, the EP10 only makes contact at like the last 3mm of insertion.
I don't have this specific model (till it arrives tomorrow) but I have other Kasa smart plugs and haven't had any issues. There are standards that dictate the length of an electrical plug's prongs, so I would be very surprised if this smart plug was designed with prongs that are too short to fit a standard outlet.

If you're sure the problem isn't the lose contacts in your electrical outlet, then maybe this design doesn't work for the outlet in your house. But it should work for most people. Worst case, if it doesn't work for someone, they can just return it. For only $7 it worth giving it a try.

Yes, usually recirculation pumps are very low energy consumers so it should fall in within the specs of this plug. I have mine to turn on the pump when the light switch is turned on for 5 minutes to charge up the hot water.
So now I need to buy a smart switch as well laugh out loud
The recirculation pump is low energy consuming but it keeps on running and the electric water heater is running even when I don't need it to.

It's definitely non-standard. Go ahead and give it a try if you want. I didn't realize how big a problem loose electrical connections were until I couldn't return it any more, so now I'm pissed off and on a mission to make sure everyone knows what a shitty product this is.

I've taken the liberty to show the difference between the Kasa EP10 and another smart plug I have in this video (https://streamable.com/o9a47e) [streamable.com]. You can see how far you need to go in before it starts to connect, and how well each holds onto the plug.

I don't know much about these plugs but can they be inserted into a 6 outlet power surge strip or do they have to be plugged in directly to the wall outlet? And, if plugged into the wall, a 6 outlet strip can be plugged into this, right? (I understand all 6 will then be on/off at same time)

...do they have to be plugged in directly to the wall outlet? And, if plugged into the wall, a 6 outlet strip can be plugged into this, right? (I understand all 6 will then be on/off at same time) Yes on plugging directly to wall outlet with the outlet strip then plugged into this smart plug. Yes, all outlet strip outlets will be on or off depending on the smart plug status.

Does anybody use these for hot water re circulation pump? Can I turn it on demand for a short time and schedule it to turn off within few minutes?
Not specifically for a pump, but I have a couple of mine configured with Smart Actions to turn off 30 minutes after I turn them on. It occasionally forgets to turn them off, but mostly works.

Regarding the grip of the contacts, they aren't as tight as other outlets/plugs, but I haven't had any problems with plugs falling out. Grabbing an AC adapter, I can lift the whole power strip the plug it connected to.

Even with their smaller size, these will likely block multiple outlets on a power strip, unless the outlets are spaced farther apart then usual. You can plug a power strip into the smart plug, but then the smart plug won't be (as well) protected by the power strip and you'll need to be mindful of the total load.

I have 4 of the EP10 for a year now and they all work great. However, I didn't understand your point until I watched your video. You're talking about the outlet on the smart plug itself is not great for the things you plug into it...not the plugging of the smart plug into the wall. I checked mine and I do see your point even though it hasn't been a problem for any of mine, you're right that there is a difference. The ground pole though does seem to make a "normal" contact so a 3 prong plug shouldn't have the same problem you demonstrated.

In my opinion, Kasa makes the most reliable smart switches. I rarely have trouble and have to reset them in Alexa or the app.

Yeah, the 3-prong plugs definitely grip a lot better. I'm using these smart plugs to switch 12V AC adapters for LED lighting, which is basically the worst case scenario because they're all 2-prong and heavy.

Is Amazon phasing out their own brand of smart plugs? All the smart plugs in my house are Amazon but I need a few of these for some heavier duty appliances. Is Kasa now the "official" smart plug for Amazon? I see Amazon is bundling their Echos with this plug.

I use one of these for a soda gun chiller/freezer
Commercial unit makes a racket when on so it's only on during the night which lasts the whole day
Only downside is the kasa plugs even with energy monitoring don't tell you an hourly amount of energy being used. It just says how much used over the day and right now.
Changed to an emporia smart plug. That one graphs it to the minute (or even seconds) so I can see how many times it actually revs up over the night and only have it on that amount of time during the night.
Kasa energy monitoring can be tracked via home assistant if you are looking for more detailed information, will show up to date graphs, with fridges compressor cycles along with defrost cycles are apparent.
