It is absolute bullshit to make digital codes expire on products that are still sitting in stores or for sale on online sites. Make them one-time use only for sure so people can't share them, but I shouldn't have to wonder if the brand new product I am ordering will have an expired code.
One deal to rule them all !
This will NOT include a digital copy.

I bought the same set on Prime Day, and even the packaging now says just, "4K Ultra HD" - it used to say, "... + digital copy"

If, by some crazy chance, you got a set WITH a digital slip.. there's still a 99.99% chance it's already been expired by WB.

Greedy WB.

I do appreciate that. I would just love to experience the Atmos. I have a 5.1.4 set up and have to imagine this sounds incredible. If there was a way…

The atmos mastering on this set is pretty amazing. Demo material for sure!

You will see a lot of opinions; I think movie collectors actually favor the remastered 1080p Blu-ray over this 4k set due to heavy noise reduction (common complaint with 4k UHDs nowadays). A smaller number prefer the original Blu-ray because the green tint they grew up with has been removed in the newer discs. It mostly just sucks to buy the same movie over and over and over again over your lifetime...
Dang. I was so close to ordering this then read this comment lmao. I already have the entire extended trilogy on bluray and if this is the case, probably pass. Which is funny because I just re-watched all three on MAX recently too hahaha what is wrong with me...

Sound is always overlooked by people, especially in streaming vs disc comparisons. If you seek Atmos, go for it! 👍

Does anyone know if this includes a digital code? There's apparently a version that did have a MA code and one of the review videos on Amazon shows different packaging with the MA logo on the back of the box. Blu-ray.com says the digital code is expired. I just want to confirm.
The 4k extended versions were $5 each from one of the MA compatible sellers several months ago (not helpful now, but just as an fyi for what they have sold for)

Well the new packaging has no mention of a digital code. There's no mention in this listing of one. The movies released in the last few years all have the code expiration dates printed on them. If you're buying something that doesn't mention a code or clearly states the code is expired, you should have no expectation of receiving a code.

I know it sucks that they're doing this, but no one is being tricked.

Well you will get a lot of opinions on the audio side also.
Keep in mind object based soundtracks work on top of legacy core algorithms.

Just because it says "Atmos" doesn't necessarily mean you're getting a true representation of its capability.
A perfect example of this are these fancy expensive soundbars(any for that matter).

The object based soundtrack on this trilogy is reference material BUT TBH it's probably only really worth it on a good proper setup.

Especially since the BD version is also reference material & algorithms like Auro-3D can simulate it fairly well for those situations.

So thankful that we got this trilogy when we did. Lord knows what we would get if it were made today.

Thank you! I think that's the best option for me. I already have the 3 separate LotR theatrical version BDs and I have the 3D Hobbit BD trilogy, but I don't have the extended versions, I don't have them in 4K, and I don't have them in my streaming library. I don't even have a 4K TV yet, so I'm in no rush, but I can't pass up a great deal.

Then buy this and return it to Target. You're well within the return timeframe, I'm not sure why you wouldn't?

In my experience 90% of my codes worked even way after they expired.

They were filmed digitally in 2k, and they will never be truly 4k (as with many digitally shot films from that era)
