Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.
So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.
Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

I just picked up a phone at my local store and there was a rep on site to activate via their WARP system. When she rang me up, there was a charge for the phone at $49 and a "ST45 T/T/D plan" at $45, e-911 tax and it came out to be around $108. I questioned the activated plan since I was expecting the $35 plan but apparently, the system only lets you choose a $45 and up plan for the promo.

The alternative was to get the phone at $149 + a $35 plan and that came out to be around $185. Yeah, no thanks.
It's possible to get the phone with the $35. It depends on the clerk on whether he will do so or not. I was doing some work and stopped by a Super Center that was 1 mile away. At the store the phone guy said that you must get the $45 plan to get the phone for $49. I wanted to buy three, but the guy said limit 2, but I can come back the next day if there are any left. Also each phone had to be rung up separately. So each phone with a $45 plan comes out to be $112 per phone after taxes and fees.

Not wanting to have to drive out there again the next day to buy the 3rd phone, I opted to drive to a different Super Center that was like 5-6 miles away. That Walmart just gave me the phone and told me to go pick out one of the plan cards on the shelf. There was a 30 basic plan, but the clerk said don't get that one since a lady earlier got that one and it didn't activate the phone so she ended up having to buy a $35 plan again. So I got the $35 plan. The clerk rung up the phone and the $35 plan for a total of $99. Damn, if only I didn't have task to do in the area of the first Walmart, I would have driven to this particular Walmart since it was closer to home rather than my work place.

Well at least the one good thing to come out of this is that all three phones didn't have any problem activating and now shows that my unlock date is 1/10/2024. So I'm all set with no problems like others in this thread.

Yes. You never even need to power on the phone for unlock if you don't want to. It just needs to be activated on their end. But make sure that the phone is activated in their system by going to the ST account page and make sure the plan timer has started AND your specific device ID shows up there. And you may want to check back after a few days to make sure that it's still showing your line as "active" with the plan timer still running just to be certain everything is still on track. To verify that it's actually unlocked at the end of 60 days, you can do a free "Apple basic info" check at Sickw.com
I have done a little bit research on the previous threads, and the consensus seems to be that you need to insert the bought sim card in order to get unlocked. Is what you replied your own experience or someone else's? I don't wish to find out after 60 days it won't unlock and my son will no longer be active.

For each phone order at Walmart, do you need to use a different email? The guy at Walmart said I could not use the same email used to buy the 1st phone. I thought you could have one email for two phones as it is the limit in store. So confusing - so had to give a different email. Do I have two accounts now?
yes, but it's possible chat might be able to change it to one if you really want that.

If you'd prefer a larger phone the older Straight Talk iPhone 11 will be $199 (same in-store deal starting 11/6).
Do you know if the SIM needs to be inserted for the phone to be unlocked in 60 days, or you can activate in the store/on the website, never insert the SIM, and the phone still gets unlocked in 60 days?

Hi Shajeel! I wanted to follow up and share my experience here in case it helps others.

I drove to my nearest walmart that had this in stock and i acquired 2 phones for ~$96 each.

Will use the first month plan and then put them away and hope they unlock 2 months later!

Thank you once again for giving me some info!
Need 2 SIM cards for 1 of each phone W/ the active plan to be unlocked within 60 days.

You can't just buy a discounted NEW iphone without a plan and expect it to be unlocked on it own. It doesn't work like that for this deal.

2 phones, 2 active plans, and 2 separate numbers..

My experience after seeing a few others mention doing it successfully in past threads. I've unlocked 4 or 5 phones that way and never even physically touched the phone or SIM card. The key is that it must get to the point where that phone's IMEI shows up in the device section for that line. That shows that it's properly activated on their system to trigger the unlock and it will start counting down number of days left in your plan. It may also be a good idea to look back at your account info later to make sure that the line still shows as active and with that device IMEI. The line will go inactive once your plan expires and that's no problem. However, if it shows inactive before the plan ends, that would be something to check into.

Obviously things can change, so I wouldn't try to give some blank statement that it will always work, but that has been my experience.

Thank you for the info. So after 60 days, will it just unlock automatically? No need to call or anything?

Yep … you can check the unlock status at Sickw.com if not wanting to open it. Now i have seen very occasional issues with auto unlock not going through, but it seems to be pretty rare and usually still taken care of by unlock dept even with an inactive account. (By the way, when I mention seeing posts about auto unlocks not going through, I mean people who actually physically activated the phone. The sample size of people keeping them sealed is much smaller, so less data on those obviously. Mine all unlocked automatically when I did it that way, so have no specific data about resolving issues that may crop up in that instance.)

I did, and it didn't work. These phones come pre-locked to Tracfone. It won't connect to the network when you try with ATT sim card.

Oh man… looks like im in for a treat when i call tomorrow… atleast they can fix it sounds like. Have you tried checking the unlock by texting 611611? Hoping that doesn't interfere with unlock.
It says that it'll be unlocked on 01-09-2024. I hope that I won't have to contact customer service to actually get it unlocked.
