Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.
So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.
Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Update: Order cancelled from ST.

Ordered two phones and $35 plans early on the 6th, charged on the 7th. Phones were for family use and not to flip. Was time for new phones and thought this was a good deal. Stuck in pending fulfillment limbo. Account stated approved. Never used ST before.

Gave a few days before trying to check on status. Contacted multiple times on chat and phone. Was also given a useless ticket number. Finally got a "manager" (today, 15th) that was polite and seemed like he knew what was going on. Said order was cancelled and no phones in stock. I mentioned that there has been no email updates on status or cancellation. I also said they currently had red and black in stock. Because order was cancelled, he cannot re-instate it. Price is now $99 and $45 plan so not going that route. Said refund in 3-5 business days. I will check on CC to ensure it happens.

Used this number to contact ST: 1-866-806-1840, PIN 267364

Now to see if I can find 2 at Walmart.

Update: Checked CC, says pending refund. Will monitor.

Went to Walmart (Aberdeen, MD). Plenty in stock. Bought 2. Very helpful OSL Kiosk employee. He did not try to up-sell. He recommended unlocking and ditching ST after the 60 days. Nothing but problems. Took some time though. Could not use account I set up for the online deal. Had to use 2 different other emails for it to work in his system. He entered one wrong. Did not catch it. Just set up that new email when I got home. Tried to combine both phones into 1 account. Could not figure it out. Not too worried. Only using for the 1 month $35 cards. Will sit second month then transfer to another carrier in January. Already texted 611611 Unlock for both phones. Both came back with unlocked on January 15th.

Thanks Slickdeals members for advice.

***Now looking for a Samsung or Pixel Android deal in the 100-150 range to replace an awesome Samsung Galaxy A32. Any newer, better phones fit for holiday sales? Replacing family phones this season.

Yep, same with me - that is the number to get more knowledgeable representatives relatively speaker. They open a case but I also wondered if the case brings attention to the order and hastens them getting canceled . One of my refunds posted already. Still waiting for one more to post (it shows as pending)

The pin you enter when it asks for reference number or whatever. But if you want clarification on your order that it was canceled or hasten its cancelation then call that number.

A phone is supposed to arrive today that I ordered with $45 plan a few days later because my hunch was that these were going to get cancelled.

I think I'm banned from ST website so went in store and got a few. Mobile rep was nice.
These are the steps

Warp computer
Create new order
Straight talk
Purchase with activation
Next
New customer 1st name,last name
New email
$35 plan
Asks for device imei
Print documents and then check out at regular Walmart register

Ps mobile rep and Walmart electronics rep are 2 different associates, most Walmart reps won't know what they are doing, some mobile reps don't even know what there doing, try your luck
Thank you for the details. I am wondering where you got the 15-digit service pin for the $35 plan? Was it printed out from WARP system? My local Walmart ST rep grabbed a prepaid card off shelf to me, but I don't think it would work ad he even didn't scan it during the check-out.

Good deal to use this a modern-ish iPhone Touch for a child who doesn't need cell service yet?

Anyone know if the plan needs to be cancelled before trading in the phone? I've traded in Carrier Locked phones before without any problems, but I've never done it so soon while it was still activated with a carrier.

Can't you take the SIM card out before you send it in?

Assuming you activated the physical SIM.

Yes, I always take out the sim and do a factory reset. I've just never traded one in that was still activated on a plan and wondered if it would be an issue or not.

Walmart cellular rep in-store told me that the deal is no longer valid for the $35 plan. Said that somebody (Straight talk?) Came in and took all of the $35 cards out of the store. Can anyone confirm?

1) Did they change anything *else* about the deal?
2) Most importantly, does it still unlock after 61 days?
3) Is it true that we do not NEED the physical $35 card to add the $35 plan to the phone as dox83 says below...? He says on the next page that he ended up leaving without buying one (for perhaps different reasons... taking a long time... computer system not working...) so I'm thinking that we need the physical card...

@MacFrugal, I have the same exact question.

I got this today at my local Walmart. I tried to buy it at 8:30 am, but the "phone guy" wasn't in and wasn't scheduled to be there until 12 or 1 pm. I came back at 1 pm and tried to order the phone, but the "phone guy" didn't have the key to the cage. After, waiting 15 minutes the guy with the key showed up and unlocked the cage and brought out the phone. I told him I wanted the $35 plan, but he said it had to be the $45 plan to get the phone for $49. Is that true?

They didn't even grab a card when I did mine. It was all done through the computer system.

Did you need the 15-digit service pin to activate your plan?

My store kept saying the system was done when going to activate it and he called their support. After nearly 3 hours of pacing the store and him saying it wasn't going through and trying to sell me a different iPhone on a different service for hundreds of dollars more and like $55 a month I just gave up and left.

Yep, that's why I got it, don't wanna add a permanent line to our plan for my son yet, he can use this for now. I have an unlocked iPhone SE 1st gen that he plays around on, I put Mint service on it a few times, this'll be a better phone for him than that tiny thing.
