Regardless if you decide to buy this particular unit or not, one KEY specification you should locate prior to purchase with any home "A/V type" Receiver:

Bolded effect added by me for emphasis -

Power output (All channels):

200 W/Ch (6 ohms, 1 kHz, 10% THD,1-ch driven)

90 W/Ch (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.08% THD,
2-ch driven, FTC)

Hope this information is insightful / helpful.

God damnit. I got burned hard by a bad HDMI board from Onkyo years ago. It was a giant recall that the old heads in here will remember. But for this price I'm thinking of rolling the dice again. SMH I'll never learn.

Slim to none.

This is the cheapest I've ever seen this receiver.

This seems like a great receiver, but I know so little about them. I just want my ps5 to look and sound great through it when playing and watching movies. Is this a great deal?
I have this receiver. It is a really good receiver. If you have Klipsch speakers the Klipsch programming will make your speakers sound even better.

I have an Onkyo receiver that does everything for me but Dolby Vision. It does HDR though. Would you agree that the difference between DV and HDR (watching on an OLED TV) is not worth upgrading a receiver?
If you like it, no reason to upgrade.

I own this receiver. I paid $400 for it and it has served me well. I'd like to clarify a few things for potential buyers.

1) It's power rating is not an issue. I have it configured in a 5.1.2 (7 speakers, 2 subs connected by a y-connector) with an open floor plan and have no issues with volume being too low or my speakers clipping. In addition, I have 4 speakers connected in parallel to Zone 2. No issues there either. I own a separate amplifier but cannot use the app to control the volume of Zone 2 when using an amp so I use the integrated amp.

2) Onkyo was bought by Voxx. Voxx also owns Klipsch, and you'll find settings specifically for Klipsch speakers. Voxx has numerous businesses under it's umbrella so the brand is stable. No need to worry about this at all.

There are some settings that are not available in the default menu. To access them, you'll need to access the menu via your network. There are expanded options for 4k 120hz devices. Once I learned how to use the receiver it's been smooth sailing. There are no preouts other than for Zone 2.
Are the settings that are accessed via the network explained in the manual?

everyone is saying this one is very weak in terms of power out. Do you know how the Denon compares? This my price point. Not sure what to do
Not sure which Denon you are asking about, but the S960 is rated at the same power of 90 watts/channel. 90 watts will be plenty for 99 percent of users.

Hmm 90 watts seems kinda low right?
90W will push a 96 dB @ 1W sensitivity speaker to ~118 dB... That's a lot.

Have to also consider that speaker sensitivity ratings are at 1m, there will a lot of loss at say 10ft from listening position. Another thing to consider is some speaker sensitivity ratings are not comparable to others Klipsch for example overrates their speakers by about 6-8db compared to anechoic measurements from most manufacturers. Most speakers nowadays are actually 4 ohm speakers even though they are rated at 6 or 8 ohm.

Still - 90 measured watts is still quite a bit of power especially if that is all channels driven simultaneously.

im noticing however that this receiver is compares to the 760 (not 960). It looks like the 760 was previously $300-320 as well. Onkyo or wait for 760 to come back to $300 ish?

You're living in the past.
Japan and Germany killed thousands of our relatives years ago and now we're all best friends, so I think you can cut Onkyo some slack and trust them again 🤣

G'Morning Y'all! Please forgive my lack of knowledge. Quick question here, and perhaps it will help others with the same or a similar question. I picked up the Monolith by Monoprice M518HT THX Certified 5.1 Home Theater System (https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=41287) and an extra Monolith by Monoprice THX Certified 8in 150-watt Powered Subwoofer (https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=41289) as a beginner 5.2 Home Theater System.

Do I need a THX Certified AVR as the speakers are THX Certified? I'm asking here because I purchased the following receiver: Onkyo TX-NR6100 7.2 Channel THX Certified Network AV Receiver (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LH9X...ct_details). I could save quite a bit of money if I substitute the one I purchased for the one in this thread. TIA Y'all!

Short answer…no.
There are varying levels of THX certification for small, medium, and large rooms, etc.
Most manufacturers don't bother with THX certification.
All that matters is if your receiver can power your speakers to your preferred max loudness without audible distortion.
Most mainstream consumer home speakers are suited to play loud enough with 100 or so watts. Many play loud enough with 50 watts. Everyone's situation will vary due to varying conditions. Room size, seating distance, personal loudness preferences, etc etc.

No you don't.
As a matter of fact I would suggest buying a slightly older used AVR that has the features you need.

Either of those receivers are overkill, you're paying for features you don't need/use.

That's an entry level satellite speaker package, a new receiver isn't gonna change that.
