God damnit. I got burned hard by a bad HDMI board from Onkyo years ago. It was a giant recall that the old heads in here will remember. But for this price I'm thinking of rolling the dice again. SMH I'll never learn.

It really depends on several factors, some of the primaries for me are: 1) how efficient are the speakers it will be driving and 2) how big of a room will it be trying to fill with sound. In a small to medium sized room with 90dB or higher speakers this unit would probably do fairly well, other than that, I certainly would be looking for more power for "all channels driven".

I just purchased a house where the home theater setup is already existing. I have this Onkyo receiver (TX NR646) connects to a projector. Before couple of days, the video stopped coming to the projector all of a sudden. I tried to connect my streaming device directly to projector and it is able to display videos. Then I tried the receiver without projector connected to it and it is able to play sound only, I even tried to connect to a monitor and TV but no video, only
Audio is coming. Is this related to the old HDmI board issue that were mentioned couple of times in this thread.

I was thinking to buy a new receiver and was this deal. Is this a worth buy knowing my existing Onkyo receiver already having this issue?

I should have been more specific, when I said bluray, I also meant 4k discs. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Sound bar has its own amplifier built in. Why would you want to combine with this?

this is a common misconception. both amps and speakers have ratings both expressed in wattage (This is what causes the confusion), they are not directly related. speakers will work perfectly fine with 1 watt or 1,000 watts of amplifier power. the 90w AVR rating is for 2 channels only. once you add more channels that output drops significantly. you should expect to use about 50-60w (Maximum) under normal usage with all channels driven.

if you want valid speaker recommendations you need to set a budget and a decide configuration (# of channels you are going to use) as well as types and placement (bookshelves, floor standing, in-wall, etc.)

Yes, I would like recommendations. I'm a newbie so I want to start from the cheaper ones. I'm thinking of 2.1 or 5.1 since I don't want a lot of wires in the room

Less $500 for a 2.1 or 5.1 is probably not even going to get you bottom entry level equipment. bookshelves may also need stands (Based on your room placement) so that may be an extra cost.

you are going to be much better off looking locally for something used (Ebay, craigslist, FB marketplace, US audio mart are some good places to look. selection will vary by area, but for reference, near me i see some decent paradigm, b&w, KEF speakers in your price range that would be light years better than anything new in that price range.

What's the bottom range? Google home Max or Apple home pod sound good to me so I thought 500 is enough
