If you have kids or just hate advertisements, these are actually probably the best streaming device on the market because you can add kid profiles to the device which completely eliminates all advertising on the home screen. We keep ours in that mode all the time. You can still install all the normal apps on the kid profile and then just use the apps as usual.

I starting using this a few weeks ago and now get why some people say it's a bit laggy/slow.

Even after reducing the animation time via dev options and uninstalling apps, still a bit slow and clunky.

The cool thing is that you can side load a certain YouTube app that block ads.

Smart tube is great! Plus I also change the launcher to Projectivy Launcher. I feel like now it runs great, no hiccups. Couldn't hurt to put Stremio and maybe some IPTVs tv services. I set these things up for family and friends. They love it. Every movie and TV show, plus all the live TV channels. Cheap setup but works great.

The one for $70?
The one for $50. I also didn't realize this post was for Amazon instead of the Google Store, but they're both the same price, it's just that Google sent me a $10 code that worked off their store too.

How do you get the Google store coupon?

Are there different generations of the Google tv chromecast? My cousin has the HD version and Dolby digital plus transcodes in plex but the technical specs pages states these support it

Can a hub support a couple xbox controllers connected via usb cable or is it bluetooth only? Lol was thinking of trying to play some android coop games

Also I tried putting movies on a usb stick to see if this chromecast can play it directly off that... Couldn't figure it out. Asked me to reformat the drive on chromecast but when I plug it back into the pc, it wouldn't recognize it after it was formatted via chromecast.
You will probably have to format it on the Chromecast, but if you chose as a removable storage device as the options when you format it instead of system storage it's more likely to work.

I bought the Onn 4k version and it's as fast as the 1080 chromecast. Works flawlessly from what I see and it was cheaper than the 4k Chromecast.

Do you happen to have a link of the Onn 4k version that's on sale?

This thing is fairly long in the tooth. I sold my laggy Chromecast 4k and going to try a Fire stick 4k max (about the same price).
I agree, it works fine mostly though it's due for a refresh. Only can put a dozen or so apps on it before it fills up. So I have to mess with a USB-C hub and flash drive to get extra storage. And only about 25% of apps can move to external storage. When released it did benchmark better than Amazon

There's an app to "send files to TV" that works. Or use NAS and VLC

I personally have little use for that. I've got an always on Linux desktop with all of my media in shares that show up when I use the ZeroConf browser built into Kodi. Maybe extreme for some people, but right on target for me.

My original media setup involved an IOMega HDD and a BlueRay player that could play from it with DLNA, but that was the last time I used a dedicated "NAS" for the purpose, though my desktop might qualify as that.

Go through your apps and clear the cache on all of them. Also you may be close on your storage limitations. If you have any apps that you don't use, delete them. You can always reinstall in the future. This will help, but no guarantee it will eliminate your issues.
Mine has a couple gigs of free space and I cleared the cache of all apps. It stutters every 5-10 seconds in the ESPN and Bally Sports+ app. The only thing I haven't tried is factory wiping it. Very frustrating issue with my Chromecast 4k w/ Google TV which is otherwise solid.

Wow, I should have jumped on the 2X Chromecast 4k pack for 49.97 at Costco I guess. (some stores may still have them)

Not sure this is a deal anymore. I paid only a few dollars more when it first cam out. This device is long over due for an upgrade. 8gb of storage is not usable. Onn device is a good holdover device until Google gets it shit together and release a new device
