Chiaki software + Tailscale + ROG Ally/Legion Go/Steam Deck should get you all set up with playing PS5 on the go

The PS Portal doesn't really do anything except for offering a "portal" to your PS5. The capabilities of this ASUS ROG Ally are far beyond the portal.

Any beat up old tablet/smartphone can do what PS Portal does. 😂

So you are using the PS Portal as a controller? You can buy a second PS5 controller for $49 right now (a lot cheaper then the portal) and the portal will only allow you to play your PS5 in the same Wifi network. Basically acting as an extended screen for your PS5 with a controller attached, or a controller cut in half with a table plopped in between (depending on how you look at it haha). I'm sure there are ways to open the capabilities of the portal but I would honestly go with a device with more capabilities. But of course it depends on what you truly need it for. I never used to play PC games on the go but I do now more then ever. I even gave up playing my Nintendo Switch OLED and my kid uses it.
You don't have to be on the same wifi network for the portal to work. You have to have your system set up for remote play. Then as long as your internet meets the requirements and youre logged into another wifi that meets the requirements you can play your Playstation on the portal system.

Good to know, thank you for the clarification.

Watching the steady sales since this released less than six months ago inclines me to think future sales are going to be increasingly better and Asus support is likely to dry up because of how hard they've had to work to get people to buy it.

Meanwhile, Valve's struggling to keep up with demand.

If I were so inclined, I think I would wait until this goes full clearance in a few months.

Are you referring to hardware (like warranty) or software support? Since it runs windows you don't really need any software support from Asus. For example, I've installed updated AMD graphics drivers that Asus has not provided.

Awesome deal. I played some FIFA, COD and Batman over the weekend. Ran great. I think the FPS I am going to my Bluetooth controller. The handheld is fine does single-player but for multiplayer I am too sluggish. Maybe after practice I will get better.

I got an opened box from BB for $540 after tax. To me steam deck is too slow and Lenovo is too big. Hope this is a keeper. I also how it's PC so I can run many retro games

I bought a Open Box as well. Make sure you check the bumpers. One of mine was stuck and I had to open it up. Fortunately fix was easy. Mine was manufactured in May.

I always have to have it plugged in or on a power bank. On Arkham Knight battery died in 1 hour 10 minutes in 15w mode.

That's not true ps portal allows play anywhere you have WiFi.

Steam Deck OLED is the way to go. Having a fully-optimized software/user experience is the difference, not to mention the OLED screen and battery life. Valve only mentioned a handful of improvements of the OLED coming from the original Steam Deck, but there were a total of like 37 changes made, per their website. Great handheld.

There are a few others to consider around the same price range, I would look in to the others to see which one best fits you needs (Lenovo Legion Go, Valve Steamdeck and this one). I personally really enjoy the Steamdeck and was thinking about this ROG Ally but they just released the OLED Steamdeck which fits what I was looking for in a handheld PC.
Steamdeck= games on steam

ALL OTHERS= Runs windows and can play games off ANY launcher.

I have already been corrected in this forum a few posts earlier and I am now aware of that fact. Thank you.
