Chiaki software + Tailscale + ROG Ally/Legion Go/Steam Deck should get you all set up with playing PS5 on the go

The PS Portal doesn't really do anything except for offering a "portal" to your PS5. The capabilities of this ASUS ROG Ally are far beyond the portal.

Any beat up old tablet/smartphone can do what PS Portal does. 😂

it's only $20 more if you're not a plus/total member, and it costs more than $20 to sign up for either of those memberships

Steamdeck= games on steam

ALL OTHERS= Runs windows and can play games off ANY launcher.
Sorry but that is not correct. The true statement is that the Steamdeck is Linux based (less bloat and functions more like a true handheld console, requiring less fiddling with settings to get a program/app/game to work) and the others are Windows based. But, with a little bit of work, I can (and regularly) play non-steam games on my steamdeck with the use of other launchers/programs (Blizzard, Amazon, Epic, GOG, RetroDeck/Emudeck etc.). But again, all of these consoles have their strengths and weaknesses which I will not go in to here as I am not trying to debate. Everybody should pick what fits their use case with a device and try their best to NOT spread misinformation.

the non-extreme z1 version is a lot cheaper if you don't need the extra processing power

With the new Steamdeck OLED there's really not much of a point to this unit unless you just need 1080p more than you need a useable battery life.

For those of us who use gamepass ultimate, the steamdeck is a paperweight.

Good Xmas present for an 8 yr old? He's into Roblox now, but might venture into some "real gaming" in a few years. Need something to last or still be relevant for at least 5 years.

If your paying $600 then might as well shell out the extra $100 and get the Lenovo Legion Go. Its better in every way.Bigger Screen, Better Performance, QHD 144hz Screen

i would probably get him a switch lite or a refurbished steam deck. i will still be playing mine in 5 years. i definitely wouldn't spend $600 on a handheld console for an 8-year-old who could easily break or lose it, especially if he just plays roblox right now

For anyone who has games that aren't on Steam or likes the flexibility of Windows for gaming compatibility, this is great deal, even better price open box. The 1080p display also makes a big difference for me, obviously not an OLED, though.

I got an open box excellent one for around this price and was brand new a few months ago.

Some people find it comfortable, I have larger hands and didn't. The GripCase Ally fits great and makes it more comfortable, I highly recommend it along with the carrying case.

I got Open Box Excellent for this a few months ago, for that price I would go for it. Only thing that was on mine was a few fingerprints, brand new otherwise.

He has the switch. Is Roblox available to that platform?

But will they support linux, probably not.
