Chiaki software + Tailscale + ROG Ally/Legion Go/Steam Deck should get you all set up with playing PS5 on the go

The PS Portal doesn't really do anything except for offering a "portal" to your PS5. The capabilities of this ASUS ROG Ally are far beyond the portal.

Any beat up old tablet/smartphone can do what PS Portal does. 😂

What games is everyone playing on this thing? I'm trying to imagine what would be nice to play on a handheld (eg. on a commute) that wouldn't require squinting at the screen.
Mostly retro emulators including up to Xbox 360 and PS3. I'm playing MW3 multiplayer on it and it runs well, doesnt feel too squinty.

Picked up an open box excellent for $500 and used some certs to get it down below $400. I considered the OLED Steam Deck, but I'd prefer full Windows compatibility so I can use Game Pass, Steam, Epic, GOG, and try this thing out as desktop replacement (pairing it with the XG Mobile 4090...which is way too expensive).

So far, the only slightly annoying issues were getting some of the touchscreen taps just right when using it as a handheld and a few times during setup when it seemed to freeze due to too many updates running at once.

Give me a steaming deck instead please, this hardware is guaranteed to not receive many updates.. for $600, wow .. just, wow.
It runs windows so msft will be providing most of the updates for eternity. Not sure what you are concerned about. Please elaborate.

Finally pulled the trigger. Got into town to stay at the inlaws, and saw Best Buy was open until 10pm. If they actually had a legion go in stock I would have considered that, but they only had the ally. So far I'm impressed. Got GOG, steam, epic launchers all installed.

Sorry but that is not correct. The true statement is that the Steamdeck is Linux based (less bloat and functions more like a true handheld console, requiring less fiddling with settings to get a program/app/game to work) and the others are Windows based. But, with a little bit of work, I can (and regularly) play non-steam games on my steamdeck with the use of other launchers/programs (Blizzard, Amazon, Epic, GOG, RetroDeck/Emudeck etc.). But again, all of these consoles have their strengths and weaknesses which I will not go in to here as I am not trying to debate. Everybody should pick what fits their use case with a device and try their best to NOT spread misinformation.
True, but to be fare, it is much much easier on the windows based devices to play non Steam games. I have the deck and the Legion Go. For me it was the larger screen that keeps me going back to the Go and it is much easier to just install games knowing they will usually just work without having to tinker much. But like you said, we should get what we like and fits our needs. My need was to be able to read small text in game Smilie.

I had a Steam deck and almost immediately was annoyed as the two "verified" games crashed repeatedly and the load times were ridiculous. I guess if you want a console you need to mess with to get games to run, Steam is a great device. The Ally after the updates loaded the previous crashing games and played them flawlessly and smooth. No brainer, Steam was returned.

If your paying $600 then might as well shell out the extra $100 and get the Lenovo Legion Go. Its better in every way.Bigger Screen, Better Performance, QHD 144hz Screen
Actually performance reviews show Ally getting better fps numbers and overall performance despite the Go having faster ram.

Yeah I was hyped for the go but after seeing reviews decided Ally was the best handheld for the money.

Looks like BB dropped price for refurbs. Excellent used to be 520 now 504. Was sitting on sidelines but now I'll buy.

The ally was my last choice out of the 3. And it boils down to screen size - SD OLED is 7.4, Legion Go is 8. The Ally is the smallest screen out of all 3. For the money though it's got the best value for sure.

I already have a RTX 3070 laptop, so this will be to complement. Will see how it goes!

Agreed very little personal preference differences between all 3 machines. All are great devices, just gotta pick what is most important to you. Open box ally is definitely best value. You may have to order a couple and keep one that is in the best condition. My "good" condition ally was much cleaner than the two "excellent" ones which I immediately returned.

Anyone buy a used one from BB? I stopped by my local BB and the one listed Good condition for $491 was grimy like lotion, skin, dirt ground in the back. Decided to order a Excellent used for $504 and see how it goes...
