Panasonic for better chance at not glitching through UHD disc playback occasionally. IMHO and experience.
I have a PS5 and just bought this Panasonic since my PS5 has trouble playing some discs. PS5 player skipped when I was watching blade runner 2049 which is what made me buy this. It took me completely out of the experience. This also has Dolby vision and HDR 10+ which is superior compared to PS5. I spend a lot of money on my surround sound speakers and tv, I might as well get the most out of it…
+$25 statement credit for select AMEX cardholders when you spend $250 at Best Buy

For me, it actually does compete: I first went in with my XSX as a one-all-be-all - then realized it doesn't do DV. Then living with that Blu-ray player interface and using the controller to navigate - ugh (it's not like I'm playing Madden '24).

Purchased a Sony X700; loved the interface, hated the DV manual switch - but lived with it until it consistently skipped on some of the Bourne series 4K discs.

Sold it and bought this player (Open Box from BB). Realized I should have done that from the get go.

Oh - and PQ is skies and above anything I stream. This is (er- was, now) a Slickdeal.

You have to remember many of us don't care about playing games.
You sacrifice the PQ & AQ by using a game console.
Not to mention they do not support DV on disc.

Since they don't support DV, you should be comparing your Xbox X to the 420.
It's basically the same player as this without DV.

It's on sale for $199, what did the Xbox X cost you?

I got it xbx a month ago from target deal for $400, BF tossed in a game at that price. I'm not a movie buff but I was impressed with the DTS sound, can't get that on my Roku or Fire cube. Not really a serious gamer either, not online anyway. MS apps used to suck but now seem much better and there were a lot of BF deals on them, like HULU, Starz, Netflix, Peacock, etc.

I'm on a tight budget so held off for 3yrs on the xbox upgrade. Got a steal on a Sony OLED though on Prime Day last year. So I'm trying to get the most out of that lovely screen. Anyway didn't mean to hijack the deal, just thinking this is the last disc drive on Xbox so I better jump on it

Found a DP-UB420-K Panasonic at a Garage Sale. Not as good as this but the build quality is excellent. It was sealed in the box and the seller said $10. I just about fell over backward. It is indeed new. This is the first Panasonic for me and I'm impressed with it. As I was leaving the sale he was talking to someone about how nobody has a player anymore.

That's an awesome deal especially when you consider the only real performance difference between this and the 420 is DV!
Great score!

Yes. It's working great. I play mostly Bluray and DVD anyway. I'm going to put the LG away for backup.

They share the same upscaling processing which is top notch also.

So good I often don't upgrade a BR movie especially if it didn't get a good transfer and or it includes the object based soundtrack.

If you don't game so don't have a PS5 or Xbox, this is THE best player you'll ever need. Only a trained eye will see a difference between a PS5 and this. But if you're an enthusiast and watch a lot of 4k discs you WILL see a difference. This is especially effective for OLED owners because OLEDS do not have the requisite brightness to really take advantage of Dolby Vision but the 820's software takes care of that for you with its magic
thats awesome

The performance of this is better with all three movie disc formats, no worry about glitches/freezes & no manual DV on/off.

The Sony is less expensive and has SACD & DVD-A support.

darn.
