If you need a 4k monitor then this is not the one.
It's hard to go apples to apples.

This is OLED and it's a wider aspect ratio. You're giving up height and getting width. But this is an OLED panel - deeper blacks and better contrast/color representation, generally, than a similar LED.

4k is higher resolution and will improve some things - but you'll be able to run this monitor at a higher refresh rate and that will improve motion and perception of quality. 4K is hard for most graphics cards to push.

FWIW, I had the Samsung G7 4K monitor and returned it and replaced with this. I much prefer this from a picture quality standpoint.
Too bad cant use 10% email signup coupon but there is currently 18% CB and various AMEX offers..

I struggled like crazy between this aw3423dwf and the aw3821dw. Tested both at Microcenter. Bought both returned one. In the end I went with 38 inch. BUT after about 2 weeks of the IPS panel, I'm so thankful. I've walked away multiple times from the computer (bathroom, get something, etc.) and didn't come back right away. Even a meal and then came back. If I had OLED I'd probably be freaked out. OLED would be gorgeous to play games on, but I do work (IT stuff) and gaming. Even paused and walked away. Probably I should change my habits. Just wanted to share if you're like me.
I had a similar problem with programming. I use my monitors as double-duty, with my PC and work machine plugged into different inputs. Lots and lots of time of static elements on the screen. The pixel-shift was obviously kicking in all the time, trying to prevent burn-in, which I found extremely distracting. I also got warnings about needing pixel refreshes. It was absolutely incredible for gaming, but it was meh for productivity. In the end I ended up returning mine because I don't have the space for two ultra-wides, and I don't feel like having two separate work and leisure stations. Maybe some day, but I have other priorities.

Also, a caveat about OLEDs in general for gaming with G-Sync. I saw a ton of flicker during loading scenes because the game's FPS drops a ton, and in combo with extremely fast refresh rate, you get black frames in-between I guess. You also get so-called "gamma flicker" when FPS is unstable, which is a whole can of annoying. I felt the tech was imperfect with how games work. Hopefully they'll be able to solve these issuesnas time goes on

Personally I would rather get the extra 100 off the Gsync Ultimate 175 hertz model. Sure it ends up being 100 more before discounts but having to deal with dell gift cards when you prob won't want anything else on their site is a ehh option.

It's 618 after the amex 120 deal and the 18% cb
The AW3423DW is the older model. You can't update the firmware on it. The AW3423DWF allows user upgradeable firmware to fix any potential issues or tweaks that Dell decides to add. Other than that they are very similar. rtings reviewed both here: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/dell-alienware-aw3423dw-vs-dell-alienware-aw3423dwf/312... [rtings.com]
Basically the AW3423DW has slightly better HDR performance, while the AW3423DWF has "console mode" to allow a 4K 60Hz signal to be sent from a PS5/Xbox Series X.

It's the same monitor. The one has gsync and the other doesn't. That's it.

That's incorrect. What I wrote above is accurate. The AW3423DW does not allow firmware updates by consumers. Many people talk about issues that the AW3423DW has but the AW3423DWF can fix via firmware.https://www.overclock.net/threads...t-29159838

Not that this matters but they look different aesthetically too. The AW3423DW is white (Lunar Light) while the AW3423DWF black (Dark Side of the Moon).

The ability to update the firmware does not change anything about the hardware. Outside of the one having the gsync module and other other not having it. Hardware and software are different things.

So far here's what I got on purchasing the monitor
799 + 58 in taxes
-144 in Rkn cash back
- 40 in Amex Offers
- (1+2 MR points * 857)
Maybe -100 is the promo card but I gotta spend that which I don't know what on

Stacking offers is what helped me pull the trigger on this. Would've been sweet if I got the 120 off 599 offer

There more hardware differences, for one easy example the dw has a ring of light where the stand and panel meet while the dwf does not. Yes its the same panel, but there are differences. Another thing I've seen is that the cooling fan in the dw can be noticeable. I believe there's also a difference at the bottom edge of the panel where the dw has something extra ( but it's been a while since I was reading about the differences and I can't recall)

The only thing that matters if the consumer knows the difference between the two. The AW3423DWF has console mode to be instantly compatible with PS5/Xbox. It can also get firmware updates to fix any potential issues or add new features.

The AW3423DW has 10hz more.

Both work with NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards. If you aren't getting 175 FPS in the games you play you aren't going to maximize the 10hz extra. A 175hz monitor can refresh 175 frames per second. If the game you are running on your PC is getting 130 FPS, both monitors will operate to display 130 FPS. If you are using this as a productivity monitor (browsing the internet, using apps, etc) the monitor can operate at 175hz just fine. It's gaming where it's going to be very difficult to get 175 FPS at the max resolution on graphic intensive games.
Quote :
For example, if your graphics card and game can only render 60 frames per second, you won't benefit from the additional frames a 165Hz monitor can produce. So, the 165Hz monitor won't give you more frames per second than a 60 Hz monitor.
The higher refresh rate of a 165Hz monitor is most beneficial when combined with hardware that can handle high frame rates.

well cosmetics make a difference don't they? regardless, it's a statement of fact. there are more differences than a g-sync module.

Additionally, LEDs are silicon... light emitting diodes, they are considered hardware.

What exactly do you have to do with this monitor during work sessions? I'm pretty good about turning it off (and/or sleep) when I walk away, but what about windows being in the same positions all the time (Slack/etc)? Is the built in stuff smart enough to use pixel shift or do I actively need to move my stuff around once in a while? I understand running it in SDR is better from a burn/in perspective for work sessions and that isn't a problem as I'm in a darker room usually, and can mess with HDR only when I boot up windows to game.

Any issues with M1 Macs?
