I have one died within a year due to overheat. It was replaced under warranty though. I think the USBc version at the same price is a better deal as it would work with most new phones and laptops that do not have USB A. They are less prone to overheat too by the design.
I think it is the form factor issue.
at this point, I really think they are making them as small as possible so you can lose them more easily

The good thing is Shield usually not too hot. Nevertheless, keeping it plug in 24/7 may still be a bad idea.

I power it down at night and a good portion of the day. Guess I should find a larger replacement.

I've 3 of these. Using for 2 years now. One is always connected with xbox and runs 24/7. So far didn't have any issue. But had a different samsung 32gb. That died only after using 7 to 8 times. So you can't never say for sure.
you can use these for games???

Anyone know of any issues with this one? Same price.

I have been using the 256gb silver version of the Samsung drive for years. It stays plugged 90% of the time. Gets pretty hot when plugged to USB 3 port but never overheats. Zero issues so far and it is very fast. Some USB ports leave scratch marks on the drive because it is soft aluminum. I would hesitate to get the gray version because it may end up with white scratches.

Do not buy these. They are awful. I have had several of these decide to disconnect on a regular basis for no reason in 5-10 minute intervals.
There are nearly 32,000 reviews on Amazon with an average score of 4.7. It really doesn't get much better than that. I suggest you look elsewhere for your problems.

Btw, normal price for this is around $25.

Would this work well on a Tesla better than the BAR Plus?

It just died within a year after keeping it plugged in my laptop. It is the heat that kills it.

I've 6 of these and I've not had one fail yet. But my use may not be as demanding as it may be for others. The low profile works well for me, since I use 2 at a time on my Akai MPC Live 2.

Each drive is designated for specific genre of music I create. So they don't get hot while in the unit (usb 2.0) but dang are they fireballs transferring data while connected to the PC using USB 3.0 or connected to a USB C adapter. So I do get concerned.

4 years at this point, but now that I've written this. I may be updating this comment since I tend to have misfortunes that favor irony,
