Settle down people. Its $350 on Amazon. Dont get razzle dazzled with the regular $749 tag at adorama

Checking listed and solds on ebay there is an alarming number of this model listed right now for parts only with various problems like error codes.

It could be a good deal but it could be not great.

I'm probably going to get flac for this but I see a lot of nonsense going on here. There is not going to be noticible audio differences or video differences between receiver brands, given similar DAC and amplifier specs. In the same price class, they are all going to use the same burr brown DACs. These units all put out <.08%THD so by definition the only differences have to lie in that .08%. This is a commodity market. The only real differences are aesthetic and feature set. So find the best price, regardless of brand, that has the feature set for YOU. Sometimes processing can suck, all of them have an off switch. Anyone who says "x" brand sounds terrible most likely needs to look at their room, their setup, or their own prejudice.

You can just call the manufacturer and have them fix/replace

Did we ever figure out if Onkyo was going out of business or not? I thought they got bought out or something a few years back?

I have an old onkyo from like 15 years ago thats still running strong using 15 year old speakers/subwoofer. Can someone explain to me how that old onykyo would be better than this one? If i'm still using old/dated surround speakers.
Personally, I wouldn't bother upgrading until your current AVR gives you problems and/or dies. If you're happy with how things currently sound, then keep your money. There will always be new sound features, but at some point it's a game of diminishing returns. I'm still using 5.1 optical receivers from 2000/2001 in a phantom center 4.0 setting. The old receivers can last decades. Mine will probably outlast me.

This is probably a whopping 20 watts per channel driving all channels. Not good.

I have a Yamaha TSR-7850
Would this be an upgrade?
Not sure this site is accurate.

https://www.zkelectronics.com/com...-tsr-7850/

The problem I have with my Yamaha, is volume up via eARC to the receiver is so laggy.. hold it down 1 time, it does nothing, press it like 3 times, and it jumps up from 30dB to 70dB! I haven't been able to figure out a way to get it to respond better.

My old receiver was almost a 1 to 1 click on the volume up on the TV Roku remote to the receiver changing the volume.

I gave up on receivers, too many wires everywhere which the cat struggled with!
I'd give up on the cat before I give up on the receiver! laugh out loud

this is a source of constant misinformation. corporations are made up of many smaller "Holdings". In this case, part of Onkyo was their manufacturing division. That business was sold to Premium Audio Company (PAC) a subsidiary of Voxx (Owners of Klipsch, Jamo and many other brands). Manufacturing is now handled by a Voxx/Sharp partnership. Since that specific Onkyo division had no holdings anymore, the division filed for bankruptcy to dissolve itself. There is no point spending money on a company that no longer does anything. People took this that the entire brand of Onkyo had filed for bankruptcy and was going out of business which is incorrect. See press release below.

The Onkyo brand has released several new models since then and are still releasing more. Overall they have fared well in professional reviews.

I appreciate the clarification. I think I had read that before, but of course I only remembered the "bad" stuff. Smilie

I had to dump Onkyo using due to features and stability issues. Many software bugs and unit stopped working after first 2 months of uses - I am in the market to buy an amplifier but no to onky..

This or the Denon AVR-S970H for $80 more. I have a denon x1500h with left, right, center and a sub. Thinking of adding a couple of rear bookshelves to make it 5.1.
Where is the 970 $80.00 more = $379.00?

Super deal. I have an older model and love it. It's going strong, otherwise I'd grab this.

Any recommendation of smaller, wireless speakers for pairing with this AVR?
