Settle down people. Its $350 on Amazon. Dont get razzle dazzled with the regular $749 tag at adorama

Checking listed and solds on ebay there is an alarming number of this model listed right now for parts only with various problems like error codes.

It could be a good deal but it could be not great.

I'm probably going to get flac for this but I see a lot of nonsense going on here. There is not going to be noticible audio differences or video differences between receiver brands, given similar DAC and amplifier specs. In the same price class, they are all going to use the same burr brown DACs. These units all put out <.08%THD so by definition the only differences have to lie in that .08%. This is a commodity market. The only real differences are aesthetic and feature set. So find the best price, regardless of brand, that has the feature set for YOU. Sometimes processing can suck, all of them have an off switch. Anyone who says "x" brand sounds terrible most likely needs to look at their room, their setup, or their own prejudice.

You can just call the manufacturer and have them fix/replace

What the hell is the point of these things? What's so good about them and why are they so expensive? Why not just get a sound bar? I am so confused.
It's a premium sound thing, you wouldn't understandSmilie

I am not blown away by this upgrade. Granted I have done nothing else yet - such as change my 5.1 to a 5.1.2. However just the receiver swap - no real perception of change. I have a lot of settings to tweak. I do like the center 'width' setting on. I know my Yamaha had some center width settings - but I could never hear a difference when changing it. This time I can hear it spread the center channel to my FR and FL. In my wide room this sounds nice.

I miss the display of "Dolby Digital" - on the display when playing such content. Was a nice quick "yup, things are working' - now I need to hit an info button on the remote to check.

Menus and navigation are obviously very different. But not bad.

I have not browsed to the receivers web UI yet (different than the app) - that is supposed to have some important and handy settings only found there? Also web UI has a way to backup and restore settings? Will be nice for trying new settings and having a path to revert back.

I would say if just doing a swap - dont expect anything drastic changing with sound (coming from rx-v473).

UPDATE - had some more time to play. Really liking the new "full" sound I am getting turning on the center width. I have a very wide and close seating arrangement - this has really helped with dialog. I do find my sound stage having more ooph for some reason. Might be because i set my surround crossover @ 70 for everything.... was 80 or 90 on the Yamaha. The speaker calibration with mic wants it in the 50-60s.

Happy... just not blown away in awe... if anything it speaks to the quality of the Yamaha.

UPDATE: Not in manual... go to IP address of receiver... ###.###.###.###/websetup.htm --- to access webUi. if prompted for a username/password... its 'ciuser' for both. Not sure what new functions are here - but looks like just an easier way to manage things. You can also backup and update your configuration file. You can also print your current settings.
Wanted to give an update. I have not watched a lot of full movies on this yet - but so far very happy still. The wide front audio "on" (setting is on/off) has really helped my room setup with dialog. Also - the tone adjustment specifically for dialogue has really made dialogue shine in this receiver. Watched a full movie last night and felt like I heard every word. Without constantly messing with the volume. I do have the sound leveling/night mode on also.

I do feel like maybe this is a bit light on bass and lows as others suggested. I think I can dial that in next... has not been my focus. Its fine - but I can tell it needs adjustment.

If this makes it so I am no longer battling settings to hear dialogue I will be very happy with this coming from the Yamaha.

Which speakers do you have paired with this? I always assumed dialogue clarity should not be an issue with dedicate 5.1 systems since you have a proper center channel. Why was that an issue in the yamaha?

I'm contemplating upgrading to a dedicated 5.1 or 5.1.2 and this would be the likely receiver I go with if I did.

I have very entry level Klipsch. B-200 surrounds and C-200 center. Polk sub. Playing more... I dont hear the wide center setting making a difference. However... The tone adjustment for "vocal" seems to be what is spreading dialogue across my Front Right, Front Left, and Center. I think that is what is making things better for me.

I have heard people running a phantom center setup... no center to help with vocals. Adjusting the vocal tone up seems to get me close to that... but still a dedicated center.

Per manual...
--------
VOCAL button: Emphasizes movie dialogues
and music vocals to listen to them more easily.
It is effective to movie lines in particular. Also, it
exerts the effect even if the center speaker is not
used. Select a desired level from "1" (low) to "5"
(high).
1. Press VOCAL.
2. Press + or - to adjust.
• Depending on the input source or listening
mode setting, selection is not possible, or the
desired effect may not be achieved
----------

When i turn this up to 5 (max adjustment). I clearly hear vocals coming from all 3 front speakers. +5 is too much.... +3 seems to be the sweet spot for me.

UPDATE: Watching Avatar with my kid. Vocals are great. Using +3 setting on Vocal tone.. I asked if he found it easier to hear the talking than normal. He agreed. If I push it any higher and am sitting off center... the center and sides sound too similar. +3 the center is still dominant... but the extra vocals from left and right help me immensely.

Update: Dialed back a bit more to +2 on vocal tone.

It'll passthrough yes. But if you're doing a PS5 console you should go directly to TV and use eARC back to the receiver for audio.
Is that the recommendation for just the PS5/XBox, or for all video signals (Apple TV, FIrestick, etc)? Do most people pass all their video signals through this, or directly to TV and eARC back?

Some TV's don't have a "audio pass-thru option. Some TV's also only have ARC and not eARC, so you cannot get 5.1 Linear PCM. It makes sense to pass everything through the receiver at that point. Even if your TV has eARC, is there a reason you'd want the TV to even have a handle in what should be unprocessed audio at all?

You want good sound or fake barf sound? It's like someone saying "What the hell is the point of OLED tv's? why not get the cheapest tv possible?"

I had an Onyko TX-NR626 that went POP today.... filled the room with magic smoke smell and says 'Check SP Wire'. Almost made me cry. Another Onyko or back to Yamaha
