Here's an idea. Maybe you can go to your local AutoZone and pay $204.99 for the exact same set. Same brand, same part number, same factory fresh new condition, identical in every way. Maybe tripling the price will make you and your family feel safer.

After years of replacing brake pads (and once in a while rotors) with no issues, the first time I replaced it on my current car it started squeaking whenever braking. So I replaced the pads with ceramics. Same issue. Next, I replaced the rotos with genuine factory parts and followed all the lube/grease advices I came across. Same problem. Braking power is fine. Scratching my head now. Any ideas?
Make sure quality anti-rattling shims are in place. Check the rotors for hot-spot discoloration or deep grooves. Remove if needed. Wipe rotor surfaces with alcohol. Switch to Akebono ProACT pads.

The old rotor looks spotless and barely shows any wear marks. The grooves are minimal. Nevertheless I replaced it since I was too lazy to have them resurfaced. I did clean the surfaces. So all that remains is checking the shims to see if they are quality or not, and then I'll look into Akebono pads. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughtful insights.
Yep. A Buick can pair well with Slickdeal mentality.
Grab a grampa Buick with the 3800 and it'll last until you are a grampa. Bought mine in my 20s and still daily drive it 15 years later. Cheap on maintenance, insurance, and great gas mileage on the highway.
Big engine bay to work in, if ever needed. You'll save enough with it to buy a fun weekend car or every item on FP of Slickdeals over the next decade or possibly both. 😆
Holy ish.. reading this is like if I typed this.. I bought my 2000 Regal GS.. 1st owner in my 20's as well and has been my daily driver ever since. Kept up with the maintenance.. dealt with the elbows.. i just hate getting back to fill the power steering reservoir. Other than that pretty roomy engine bay to work on. Parts are cheap. Clear coat is peeling like crazy but still hanging in there. Woohoo to the 3800 peeps out there!
You must have gotten lucky! I've had 2 3800's, one in a Grand Prix and one in my Monte Carlo SS. The plastic coolant elbows went bad while driving and overheated the engine, which ultimately lead to blown gaskets. If I ever get another one, then I would change the coolant elbows right away. Good engines otherwise.
Man.. sorry to hear you went through all that. Those elbows do suck.
I ended up changing the elbows to aluminum.. I still had to replace them a couple years later cause the Dorman O rings went bad. So bought AC Delco O rings and lets see how long that lasts. I've always like the 2000-2005 Monte Carlos... Pretty sweet!

The new Akebono pads should come with quality stainless shims. No need to check the old shims. Remove the front wheels and apply/release the brake. The rotors should spin with a small amount of friction from the front pads. If there is excessive drag, then you may have a stuck piston. You can test for a stuck piston by opening the brake bleeder bolt on the side that's dragging.
I'd wipe down the pad's braking surface with alcohol to remove unwanted deposits. Apply light to moderate brake pressure during the first few hundred miles. I don't bed Akebono brake pads. If you feel pulsation immediately after installing new pads, then the front rotors may be warped.
There is no need to machine the rotors if the old pads wear out. Lightly clean rotors with 100 sandpaper, wipe with alcohol, and install new Akebono pads. Rockauto sells Akebono pads at a discount. There is also a 5% discount code on the internet.

Shows how much I know about replacing car parts, I though the "elbows" referenced were from other people ribbing him about what car he drives lol. I am sorry I thought that way and would never car shame someone, but humans suck sometimes.
Bought these a few years back also had problems with warping not long after installation and seems like it's pretty common.
Never had a problem with other brakes installed. Maybe I just got a bad one because most of the reviews look ok
My rotors had a warping issue due to the brake pedal occasionally sticking on my Regal. It is a common problem and the plastic pivot pin needs to be replaced.
Careful with these aftermarket rotors, they are often times cheaply manufactured so they are not balanced. Your car will start vibrating at highway speeds.

For a brake job, there is no need to resurface the rotors or replace them?

You should apply disc brake quiet to the back of the brake pads. Also clean and re lube the caliper slide pins.

I use the CRC red disc brake quiet and it does a good job. Ceramic pads seem more prone to squealing than other types. I use the CRC every time I replace pads and problem solved.

lol literally - people crap on powerstop as a brand for the sole reason of paying 2-3x as much at the local autozone or 4x as much when their trusty mechanic orders them for them
