This threw me off early on when I was confused, too.
So just consider USB-C as a the port shape (will it plug into the port I need it to) then read the specs of the USB-C cable or device to see if the specs suit your needs.

This is correct. Just like usb-a, usb-b, usb-mini, usb-micro, and I'm sure a few others, usb-c only describes the I/o port connector type; unfortunately, Amazon, et al, list protocols and specs so it muddles things. Great info here if ya wanna nerd out; https://en.wikipedia.or

Deal Editor's Notes & Price Research:
I have tried using this drive with a Pixal and an Iphone. File transfers constantly freeze after moving a few of the files and then you have to disconnect and start over.
I was trying to use it to move pictures off on my phone. Now using the Photosync app which is much easier and works. Only issue is it does not like VPN so I have to turn it off before using.

File transfer for the PC has always been kind of ridiculous. How many decades did it take before they figured out a single problem file should not hold up an hours long transfer because you have not yet clicked "OK" in a dialog box?
Because it's more convenient (and faster) to download and/or organize everything (your incoming roms/isos) on a PC and then transfer it to the steam deck via USBc. This remains true for the OLED model (in terms of speed) though less so because of the improvements to wifi. It will always be more convenient to have a secondary device to grab files with.
Also, if your home has multiple steam decks like mine does, and you like simplicity.... You can actually just pre-organize everything into the correct destination folder structure, and literally drag and drop the entire root folder to multiple devices. Takes the device-end work out of the mix.
This all applies only to emulation or perhaps PC redumps though.
