No way! If you are going to go refurb then check out Server Part Deals because they are an established company with a pretty good rep around here.

Agree with this 100% In November I bought 9 20tb rebranded Seagate EXOS X22 drives for $179 each from server parts deals. Each drive had less than 15 hours of usage on them. I have them in an 8 drive zfs raidz2 for around 110TB of usable storage. I did a long S.M.A.R.T test on each drive and they all came back with zero issues. With raidz2 you can lose up to two drives and not lose any data. I am keeping the 9th drive in cold storage just in case another drive fails.

Good catch.

I detest NewEgg.

Looks like SPD (direct) has the same item for $218.99.

I assume NewEgg charges sales tax (Massachusetts rate is %6.25)...so $200X.0625 = $212.50.

I know that SPD does not charge sales tax.

I would much rather spend an extra $6.49 and do business w/SPD direct

Good points, yea I normally avoid NewEgg unless I have no other option. Just thought I'd point out in case anyone had warranty concerns!

My ServerPartsDeals X22 drive was DOA. They did respond quick to my RMA, and I am currently waiting for them to get the broken drive back. It would not even spin up.

The SMART data and usage is reset as part of the refurbishment process. Of course they would read as low hours of usage.

People are normally getting these large drives for a NAS setup. So a NAS is probably the ideal way to do it especially if you have multiple laptops. But you can get like a 20 dollar SATA adapter that has it own power supply and you can connect it to the hard drive and the laptop.

This is too expensive for what it is. Should be half the price. Costco still has 14tb drive for $150 in store which is way better deal.
What are the details on the 14TB drive they have?

Just bear in mind, it doesn't matter if the company charges sales tax or not, you legally owe that sales tax to your state and are expected to report it on your taxes. Breaking the law to save a few bucks when you had a cheaper legal option is the opposite of a slick deal
yikes...
