When you're a battery daddy, you don't want loose batteries.

I just need a good battery tester that does the coin type. A lead on my trusty old Radio Shack tester broke recently and I don't think soldering will fix it. But I hate having to pay $40+ for a new one.

Any recommendations?
These cheap testers are terrible. I just use a multimeter

That's what the battery daddy marketing folks told you but isn't a real risk.

To each their own I guess. Luckily I don't really care how other people store their batteries. You do you my friends.

-the total piece of junk battery tester that's so frustrating it makes "throwing away everything questionable" sound like a good idea
i agree. got this tester on ebay way back in the day, like 10 years ago. i used ebay bucks and it came out to be free. it was like $1. it's beyond rinky dink. i threw it out because it gave incorrect readings.

Again you don't need 70 spare batteries. Just one or two sets of rechargeable batteries not being used. Having that many batteries is just plain silly. Or use normal batteries and always have two sets on hand. Not 16 sets! They're not all going to die at once.

I have to say, with one in Kindergarten and one in HS, I easily go through 50+ AA and the same in AAA every 6mo at a minimum. Not to mention all the 9v for the smoke detectors, Cs (and Ds) for various battery operated shit in the garage and kitchen. The problem with a few rechargables is that there may be 10+ devices needing AA or AAA all at the same time (yes, in use and not just sitting there). Even going through that many, still pales in comparison to having to buy batteries, charger and keep charged all those not to mention spares for the smoke detectors, garbage cans, etc etc... And each charge lessens what it can hold/put out. Unless I can use them for 5 years and not notice or have to keep charging them every couple of weeks, I'll stick with the spare approach.
