I would say don't buy the Dirac Live, but do use a little money to design your space. Sound deadening paitings, heavy curtains versus window blinds, throw rug versus tile floor, that kind of thing. Sound correction was made as many people were unable or didn't have time to properly correct their settings to make the adjustments needed after they correct their space. The problem, in my opinion, is that people want to buy something like this and just throw it in any space and it will sound amazing. Not true. It will sound the best it can for that space, even if it means turning down your front speakers dramatically for the best non-reflective sound. So it might just be that you need to check out your space and see what might be reflecting or causing issues. Almost and hard surface or if the rear port is too close to a wall, etc. Check out online forums like AVS for guides/help. Your current setup might open up a lot once you examine and change your space. I hope this helps and is all just one person's opinion.

they are not rare, per say, but are readily available once you get over $1500 price point. what i mean, almost every company that has a 1500+ model has xlr's.. they just don't put it on lower end... just like you don't get 7.1 analog surround sound (you'd ask, why, and I'd tell you it's for SACD's) until you break $1500+ mark.
I don't think I have ever heard one where they said never mind they all "sound" exactly the same!
All the "double blind test" I have seen/done people are asked which "sound" they prefer(is better), not to identify it!

"Pro" reviewers don't do double blind testing. They just give their opinion based on their experiences listening to a bunch of gear over years and years versus someone with little or no experience. That has NOTHING to do with normal hearing people hearing ANY differences in a double blind test.
No one is asking for preferential differences. Simply DIFFERENCES.
ANY differences. Show us ONE double blind test where people heard ANY differences between two comparable AVR's with their TONE controls set to flat.
Some people use tone controls. Some don't. Most "audiophiles" don't. They want signal-in=signal out.
Of course ANY amplifier will sound different if you ALTER its sound with tone controls. Didn't realize that needed an explanation.
Take some food dish, split it into two plates and sprinkle spices on one. They will taste DIFFERENT to people with normal taste senses. Duh 🤣

If I recall you stated that Audussey is "similar" and " comparable" to Dirac so you disagree with the professional reviews for the most part
As I mentioned before, I think with room correction turned off, The Pioneer/Onkyo/Denon/Marantz/Yamaha units have sounded the same, that I have owned
I really this all of these brands in this range sound the same
I have never heard the " sound signature" that you have mentioned.
With room correction engaged my opinion changes...but even then I could tell no difference when I went from the Audyssey XT32 equipped Onkyo pre/pro( 5509) to my first Marantz prepro ( 8801) many years ago
As for who is listening to " all settings to flat"...I do it all of the time with my Arcam pre pro listening to 2 channel music with full range tower speakers.
Or do I spend the same money (around $400) for the Dirac Live license and that may even be better?
Considering I only want to spend another $400ish, debating between Dirac Live or External amp. (My room is not that big and volume is already good enough, but I am not sure if an external amp still would open up the speakers better)

Great! That's irrelevant. You can't seem to understand we aren't discussing preference or better or worse. We're talking about ANY DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER in sound in a test where your bias based on brand, price, appearance, etc, is all out the window. It's based purely on sound when you have no idea what AVR you are listening to.
NO ONE does double blind tests of comparable AVR's because everyone, including you, knows down deep that it would be a colossal waste of time.
You keep saying google has "proof" AVR's sound different, but you can't point to any actual proof versus anecdotal OPINIONS. Anecdotal "Pro" opinions and anecdotal amateur opinions, like your's. That's not proof of anything.
There are countless blind tests of speakers over the years because everyone knows they sound different. From minor differences to major differences.
You claimed the Yamaha sounds different from the Marantz. Prove it. Show us the evidence. Not your amateur OPINION….but proof. You are simply perpetuating audio MYTHS.
