This version is underpowered. So much so that it's price is diving.

Based on previous SD posts, almost everyone says to go for the extreme processor. It is worth the price and can handle majority of the games out currently.

Flights that long usually have power outlets available so sure, why not.

The PS Portal is half the price new…. if you can find stock.
Lol, now that's a collectors item, if you get one keep it sealed (it's worthless out of the box😊)

I got a open box good condition with 319 last year from BB, the condition is actually brand new.

I am very happy about this.

1. You cannot find any windows laptop with this price which have useful gaming GPU.

2.You only need a usb c dock, you can use it as your second desktop.

3. It maybe similar or slight under power than Steam Deck. However, you have a way more better screen and speaker. Few FPS won't change anything. If it is unplayable on Z1, you will also feel uncomfortable on SD

4. All tech reviews are talking about the FPS. They never ever talked about the resolution. Many PC game are design for PC monitors. They use very small font size when you see it on a 7 inches screen. It means if you are in a game with 720p or 800p. The font are small and vague. It is hard to read, and it really makes me feel uncomfortable. So, I use 1080p to play many games which I need to read a lot of information.

5. 512 GB is big enough. You can get a refurbished SD with 64GB, but the size is too small. You cannot install most of modern game. It must to add another NVME and make it work. Besides, the SD refurbished usually come with refurbished condition instead of like new.

So, I would say it depends on which game you play, and how much money you would like to pay. I just cannot find any laptop at $320 with powerful CPU 16 GB DDR and 512 GB storage + GTX 1050 level GPU 1080p Screen. So I choose this one. Z1 extreme to me is over price even with open box price. I will prefer to get a 2050 or 3050 laptop instead.

For those that have both OLED SD and Ally-Extreme (!!), does the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) screen on the Ally make THAT much of a difference in games?

I've been debating the Ally-Extreme vs OLED SD and this is the difference that would make me lean towards the Ally-Extreme. TIA

This model is truly underpowered and isn't worth buying unless you only play retro games or emulate older games rather than play new titles. Wait for the Z1 Extreme model to go on sale for $100 bucks off and look for an "Open Box - Excellent" model for $503. I got two Z1 Extremes in perfect condition this way.

I have the extreme version. I really like the screen, and the non-extreme has the same screen.
The problem is, that it's not powerful enough to take advantage of that screen.

still, it's not a bad system for $400. but if you want better battery life, $150 more for a sd oled might be worth it.

This is a good price for the Z1 (non extreme). I have no idea why Asus ever thought they could sell this for only $100 less than the Z1 extreme.

Not as good as the Z1 extreme, but still this is better than a steam deck.

If you can't eek out an extra $200 for the extreme this is still a great device.

Keep on eye on open box Z1 extremes, I got one (excellent) for $480.

The Ally has a better screen. The higher resolution and VRR makes a bigger difference than OLED.

Ally is also more powerful but the Deck has better battery life and a very very smooth UI making it feel like a gaming console Playstation or Xbox would release, while the Ally feels like a gaming laptop.

I prefer the Ally, but imo most people will like the Steam Deck more due to the UI.

Beware of Asus warranty also. They make it really difficult and expensive for refunding

Does this support game sleeping like Steam Deck? That's one of the best features of SD
