As others have pointed out, it's the downside of the small form factor.

But the 4070 is a very energy efficient chip that can reach approximately 85% of its potential performance running at 65 watts instead of 125 watts. To run system substantially cooler you can just choose a lower performance mode or manually adjust things in G-helper.

For example I have the (even smaller) Asus Z13 ACRNM with the 4070 which runs at just 50 watts with 15 watts dynamic boost and the Timespy graphics score is 85% of a completely uncapped 4070 mobile system.

Regarding the 4060, paradoxically you may find that the 4070 actually runs cooler. This is because Asus has not changed the power limits between these two versions of the G14 but the 4070 can achieve the same performance as the 4060 at lower power. Given the choice between 4050, 4060, and 4070, the 4070 has the best power / performance curve.

I have the 4080 version and see temps approach 80C (CPU and GPU) playing Cyberpunk with pretty high settings. I wouldnt call this hot for a laptop at all. Especially at this form factor. 95C+ is where Id start worrying.

Do not buy. Wait for the 2024 model to come out - it's a massive improvement in power/thermals/form factor/display. Google g14 CES.

It might not, but there might be some docks that would work.

Edit: For those reading later. You cannot assume that it will work with Thunderbolt docks. Just because the laptop has USB4 does not mean it will automatically work with Thunderbolt docks. You're welcome to try but there are many discussions online with people having compatibility issues.

Not related, but i find it funny how repulsive I still find that image. I know they're paying everyone good moneybucks to change peoples minds, but at this point, it's just good money after bad. I think it almost shares first place with Ultima9 in my book.

For the pleasure of paying full price? I have a feeling the 4070 model will be $100 more than this years 4070 model. Even if comparibly priced, I wouldn't pay full retail.

What's with these small-screen 1440p laptops? Give us 1440p in a 17 or 18" laptop, not this tiny 14". Everything is going to need to be magnified 150% on this thing.

It has one USB4 port that works great with Thunderbolt docks.

may have to jump the gun on this one, the newest version looks way cleaner, but has a proprietary charger and completely soldered ram.

It's a trade off, the longer you wait the closer we'll be to RTX 5000 laptops

This or the HP Omen 17.3" from Costco [costco.com]? I know the Costco version only has a 1080p screen, but I typically like the larger screen. Any strong opinions between the two?

The G14 has way better build quality and portability if you plan to move your laptop at all. Also has more battery life with an efficient AMD chip. Honestly, if you're looking for a desktop replacement (a laptop you're not moving much), just grab thisLegion 5 Pro off eBay for $1469 [ebay.com] instead of that HP Omen. Way better thermals, power, screen, etc.

HP Omen has horrible build quality and runs way too hot.

HP used to be good but now they're unsalvageable.

But it's 4800MHz. Adding more ram with faster speed, it will still be 4800MHz.
