After some playing around you definitely need some viewing distance for this but who wants to sit 5' from a 100" screen?

I was watching old YouTube music videos from the 80's that were pretty grainy but from 10-12' away they looked as good as a 1985 video can look but even from 15-20' away it still looks great because it's so freaking massive.

Watched an NFL Network game replay via Roku stick and it looked fine from 10' away.

4k stuff looks great from closer but again you really need a bit of viewing distance. Sitting close to it is overwhelming and I found myself searching around the screen with my eyes rather than taking it all in.

If you are trying to jam this into a small living room you may have mixed results. This TV needs some room to breathe.

For reference my current TV is an 82" Samsung that my couch is about 10' away from.

Folks with poor picture quality, I'm sure this is their issue. Sounds awesome!

Geek Squad installed it today. I don't notice any upscaling blurs on low quality content like I did with the TCL. On the Apple TV, Dolby Vision was too dark for me. but 10 HDR+ was great. Granted, I always prefer the bright and vibrant version because often watch with lights on but it may not be the most accurate. We'll see how Firestick looks later. If I had to make the choice today, it would be the Hisense. I also like ATSC 3.0 tuner the TCL doesn't have can watch next gen antenna TV.

Keep us posted. Let us know about viewing angle, DSE, etc. Cheers!

Agreed I love this tv further out but closer than 10' it's not great nor would many 100" tvs

I wonder if it is personal preference on distance or if this tv is shockingly bad close up?

My history is I had a 6 year old BenQ 1080 projector in the bedroom with a 100 inch sreen so distance was about 10 feet laying down but I never looked at it while sitting on the edge of the bed or walking by it and thought it looked bad at all.

Moved into a new place and the living room tv is now on the floor until i get it mounted, an 86 basic LG 8 series LED UH HD. I got a chair about 4 ft from it right now and it's fine to look at and watch.

With all this feedback is the HIsense worse than these up close or is it just epeople not used to giant tvs everywhere?

Throw away that Fire toy and get something better.

Yes. Go for the 990C though for basically the same price from Samsung using EPP / referral (there's many Slickdeal threads on this- the deal comes up fairly often). 11.1.4, bigger soundbar, 2 hdmi inputs vs 1. That's what I'm currently using.

Just noticed viewing angles are pretty bad with the Hisense. Colors get washed out pretty soon when you move a little off-center. But that's also not unexpected and definitely more pronounced since I'm only 10-11' away from the TV.

So I got the tv today. So far I love it. Just the shear size is so immersive it's like being in a movie theater. Great black levels and contrast (for a non oled) and great color. Watching lower def content on YouTube tv (through my Apple TV 4K) doesn't look nearly as bad as others have said. No issue with viewing angles at all for my seating configuration. Didn't notice wash out at all as long as I'm in front of the tv and not off to the side.

Negatives: horrible horrible motion processing. Watching some wide panning shots on a uhd Blu-ray of 1917 was jarring to say the least. That being said I can forgive it because it's not like there are tons of scenes like that in movies but it needs to be mentioned.

Some slight bleed/bloom from local dimming zones on the black bars of wide aspect ratio content. A little disappointing to me. Again not a deal breaker but I'd expect the local dimming to be smarter about that. However, as far as the content itself I thought the local dimming performed fantastically. Didn't notice much bloom at all on the film itself in dark scenes.

And a minor nitpick… it definitely picks up reflections more than my old set but i typically watch in a light controlled room so not a huge deal, just need to remember to turn off the bathroom light around the corner.
As of now I'm very happy I bought it. Don't forget to turn of motion smoothing in the clarity section of picture settings. You have to redo it for every source type.

i am using the latest fire tv and yes same results on native apps and on the streaming device.
anything below 4k is just plain mediocre. i can watch the same video on my oled and it looks great due to upscaling but on the 100" hisense it looks like a bad vhs from the 1980s!
on the avsforums people came to same conclusion with the 98 S5 and the supposedly superior QM8 which use the exact same processor. the upscaling was way better on the S5. the best guess is the processor is overwhelmed by too much technology such as local dimming etc. whereas the S5 doesn't have that so the processor can focus on upscaling.

Got my TV today as well! Initial conclusions are very positive. I'm impressed with the black levels, color, and motion handling. Absolutely love the snappy Google TV interface and remote as well. It definitely is a step down from my 77" OLED in terms of overall picture quality but isn't as large as you may assume. I can't wait to play around with it more!
