I am a System Administrator with 13 years of experience, before that I worked as a computer technician and then as IT help desk. So I have over 20 years in the computer field. I wanted to give my thoughts on this laptop because for some reason it seems to be decisive.

I bought this laptop on black friday for the 979.99 Price. For 90% of people this is the best deal for a 4070 laptop. It's far from perfect but it's very good for the price.

I have played Hogwarts Legacy, Palworld, and a few other games with no problems and good results as far as fan noise and computer performence. Since then, when I saw this post, I bought a second one for my brother who needed a new gaming laptop.

The track pad is good and smooth with great responsiveness. The screen is very good picture and I've had no issues with it's quality or defects. I hate the freaking backlit keyboard. actual typing is fine, but the brightness options for the backlight are bright, really bright, and off. Its a small issue since i don't really look to type, but it is an annoyence I haven't found a solution for. The speakers are crap but usable, however this is unforunately very common for laptop speakers. It is running ddr4, but unless you are doing something other then playing games or what I would call normal consumer use with this laptop you will not notice a difference between ddr4 and ddr5. For all standard users I would recommend this laptop as new graphics cards probably aren't coming to laptops till q1 2025. This is due to the switch to ddr7 for graphics cards, so I'll link some articles below.

If you are doing Graphic design, autoCad, or some other more intensive, uses this is not the laptop for you. The fans will get loud from the constant pounding. The ddr4 to ddr5 will make a difference however large or small in your use case. The thermals are good for a laptop, but the fan noise can get a little loud even in gaming, so the constant pressure of these heavier workloads will probably lead to coil whine down the road. There will be other deals in the future that are better for your needs.

I don't get why this laptop is recieving so much hate here. This is a deal, and probably the best deal available right now. However I almost posted this because I didn't see it posted yet and it has a zero score.

Maybe someone else can tell me why they don't like it but my experience overall has been good. Sorry for the very long post.

Realistically, you won't be able to tell DDR5 or DDR4 on this machine

Great deal if it meets your need. The caveat is it's ASUS's line of "big dumb gaming laptop"

The TUF line won't impress on build quality, but it'll get the job done if you need the horsepower.

889 open box excellent where available def worth it

I know everybody thinks they're pro gamers here but most would be served just fine with DDR4. I'd take a 4070 with DDR4 over a 4060 with DDR5. Whatever bottleneck the ram has will more than compensate with the 4070 vs 4060

My work PC has a 1070 with DDR3 1600 and it runs CS2 just fine.

I guess it's finally time to upgrade from the 5980HX/6800M combo.

It appears this model has room for two NVME drives + 1 SATA, but it's unclear if the sata drive tray and custom sata cable are included?

This won't have the best build quality- but is absolutely the best price to performance on the market currently.

Literally who cares that it's a 12th Gen CPU- it's way more than strong enough to not bottleneck the 4070. Also, who cares about the DDR4 memory. The difference in gaming performance is mostly negligible. This laptop will do circles around a 4050 or 4060 with DDR5 and a more current CPU.

I bought this laptop last time it was on sale for 979.99, It only has 2x m.2 and no sata drive bay. The spot where the sata drive would be is taken up by the huge battery.

I bought this laptop last time it was on sale for $979.99.
Pros - very powerful, been playing Cyberpunk 2077 High with RT + Frame gen, runs great, 100+ fps in MW3 with everything maxed out. Screen is nice and gets pretty bright, Gsync is a huge plus. Easy enough to open up and upgrade.
Cons - This thing gets HOT. I'm talking 100c when going full throttle. If you get this, additional cooling is a must. I got the GT500-B and it made a huge difference. DDR4 is a con but doesn't make much of a difference in gaming, I upgraded to 32GB because with so many applications installed, the system was using up 7GB+ Ram just idling. Also no webcam slider, which my Lenovo had.

All in all its a really high performing laptop for the price, and benefits from upgrades/additional cooling.

I bought this 2 weeks ago - cannot get VR to work w Reverb G2 as DP wont connect, and Meta Quest 3 use is terrible. For non-VR games it is great, but wanted to pass along info
