This deal seems overall redundant considering some of the other laptop deals currently available.

For those looking for a very cheap laptop who're willing to pick up from a microcenter, I'd recommend the $200 hp laptop deal instead: https://slickdeals.net/f/17252290-hp-15-dy5131wm-15-6-laptop-1080p-i3-1215u-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-microcenter-in-store-pickup-199-99
Microcenter locations seem to be occasionally adding new stock of the hp laptop, though it tends to sell out fairly quickly when they do.

While the dell laptop in this deal has a better screen and a 512gb ssd instead of a 256gb ssd, it's nowhere near sufficient to justify paying 50% more imo. The 12th gen i3-1215u in the $200 hp laptop is actually slightly better than the 11th gen i5-1155g7 processor in this deal. Dell inspiron laptops also have a poor reputation regarding their hinges failing prematurely, though this is largely anecdotal.

For those that find some aspect of the hp laptop (such as the lackluster screen) to be a dealbreaker, and would be looking at an inspiron 15 3520 laptop anyways, it would make more sense to get the 12th gen version of this laptop shipped straight from dell for $280, (at minimum) $20 cheaper: https://slickdeals.net/f/17239258-dell-inspiron-15-laptop-i3-1215u-15-6-fhd-120hz-i3-1215u-8gb-ddr4-512gb-ssd-280-or-less-free-s-h

Once again, the i3-1215u is actually slightly better than the 1155g7, and at $280 (without any form of additional savings) you get the laptop shipped to you rather than needing to make a trip to microcenter. It also has some other superior features like wifi 6 instead of 5. Additionally, there are extra savings available. For example, you can get a 10% off coupon as a new customer with email signup, american express has credit card offers for dell, and dell has id.me discounts. It should also be noted that the 12th gen i5-1235u version of this laptop is $330 straight from dell, and at only $30 (if you don't get any additional savings) more expensive than the laptop in this deal has a substantially better processor with intel vpro essentials.

There was also the version of this laptop with the amd 5500u 6 core processor available shipped from dell for $270 a bit more than a week ago, though it's currently $300: https://slickdeals.net/f/17253187-dell-inspiron-15-3525-15-6-laptop-1080p-120hz-ryzen-5-5500u-8gb-ddr4-512gb-nvme-269-99-or-less-for-new-customers-fs-dell

Overall, I don't really see the point of this deal. It costs 50% more than the hp laptop of a relatively similar tier, and is (at minimum) $20 more expensive than the slightly superior new version of this exact model that's available for shipping. If you're willing to pay (at most) $30 more you can get the meaningfully superior 12th gen i5 version of this laptop.

That HP is unlike all the others with its low contrast keyboard. I am too poor a typist to be able to use a keyboard that I can't read.
Neither the dell inspiron nor the hp laptop have backlit keyboards, but I can certainly understand preferring the white letters on black keys of the dell laptop as opposed to the black letters on silver/grey keys of the hp laptop.

As I said in my previous post, if the HP laptop isn't a good fit for you for you, you'd still be better off ordering one of the newer versions of the inspiron laptop in this deal straight from dell.

I picked up an open box yesterday and was surprised to find a proprietary charger for anyone who finds that a deal breaker.

It's been a long time since I purchased a new computer. I was just reading comments on this and it seems the new windows home operating systems don't allow software from external sources besides the window store. That seems crazy… Wasn't even on my radar to think about a constraint like that.
Can anybody verify or refute this? From what I was reading, it seems like there's a new S mode option that prevents you from installing other software, but it appears that you can turn it off…

I've had several Inspiron Touchscreen 2 in 1s, mostly 11th and 12th gen i7s. No problems whatsoever. I don't like the non touch bulky version.
I never had problem with any of my inspiron, latitude, xps, laptops and desktops.

"The Dell IPS panels were first launched in the year 1993"

Not only this website gave my laptop cancer but it looks like it's just AI generated bullshit. The very first IPS panels were not commercially available until 1996

LG has a trademark on IPS so some screen manufacturers release their own proprietary implementations of IPS with names like WVA, PLS, AHVA, etc

You can be assured that they are basically the same thing by Dell's spec sheet of the Latitude 7x40 series:

I'd have to see it in person to believe it. My eyes can tell the difference.

Seems like a decent deal, but something about the Dell name really gives me pause. Has anyone had any experience with their laptops the last few years?
Any technician will tell you Dell is easier to service, especially the business models. You can easily upgrade parts.

Can any of these be used for daytrading with real time quotes, orders, fast processing if anyone has used for such a use case?

This model does not appear to have a USB-C port. Just a heads up if you were thinking of pairing this with a Dell docking station.

true.

i learned on Dell refurbished laptops, for years i would only touch desktops. after popping the back off an i5 8th generation Lattitude it was easy peasy; my HP was very difficult to work on. i had to pull the mobo to update ram. no more of that thank you.

I bought the $200 HP from Microcenter and it did come with S mode. You can switch out of it. Should be similar on a Dell, here's what to do:

Yes, if you have browser based trading with maybe one tab open. If you plan on using some trading platform like Thinkorswim, forget it. You'll need a far more powerful system. Then again, if you're trading and making good profits, you can afford a nice system.

Thanks. Would you recommend any specific CPU Intel or AMD and laptop or desktop based as a minimum? Currently using webull desktop via Xeon 1650 though it is a server grade still feels a bit sluggish, maybe the app too, not sure. Specs of this seem better then that Xeon and at almost 1/5 the power draw.

Is this better: https://slickdeals.net/share/iphone_app/t/17272444
