If you're patient you can get an open box for 750 with shipping. Expect the amp to break but monoprice has replaced it without issue. I got 2 open box speakers and both had failed amps. I expect the new amps to fail at some point as well. That being said you could buy an external amp off Facebook marketplace and still come out significantly ahead compared to a similar 15" subwoofer.

If I were to buy the external amp off marketplace, would it be the OEM amp that comes with this specific subwoofer? I'm only asking in advance because I've read that monolith sub amps fail at some point.

Where do you get the open box ones from?

Last instance an open box sale came up from monoprice, it was $250 shipping for my location. Total came to 850 + before taxes . I don't think the hassle was worth it, considering this is brand new (for $1050) and stress free with return shipping included if something were to go wrong. My M12s and their amps are into their 6th year and still going strong. Failures can happen, whether it is monoprice or SVS, also depends on how hard and bad one drives them. If you were to do DIY, a better option than trying to fit an external amp on this would be to do a mini marty build with UM18 drivers from partsexpress. That said, we all can agree that this is one of the best subwoofers available in the market for this price.

Those who are downvoting before a thread even picks up, please post a valid reason for it instead of crashing a deal that could be beneficial to others.

Using the app so don't know how to make two replies so I'll address each.

Open boxes are hard to come by, seems like every few months they come up. If you just want to buy then 1050 is a good price.

I think monoprice amps are uniquely flawed but I can't prove it. I had two open box subwoofers and both amps would shut off after a few minutes. Doing some research it was apparently a widespread problem, at least on the avsforums. There was even a guy who knew what the problem was and would fix it for a fee. Can I prove monoprice amps are less reliable than svs, etc? No. But no company publishes their reliability numbers, so you have to go on anecdote. My anecdote is that two failed and my Rythmik did not. And there is a community of people on avsforums who say this amp is unreliable. I know this isn't definitive info but, honestly, you'll never get reliable info. Just anecdotes.

Replacing the amp is problematic. It's a plate amp and can't guarantee that any plate amp you'll buy will fit. I know parts express and Dayton audio won't work. My work around, if the amps failed again and I can't replace, is to run the wires through the back to an external amp like a Behringer nu3000 or equivalent. I've heard of people installing binding posts to do this so it's doable.

I agree this is the best subwoofer for the price. Just accept that the amp reliability *may* be lower but is a fixable problem. I gave this a thumbs up but wanted to share my experience.

When I said partsexpress, that was not for replacement amps for this sub. I was referring to buying UM 18 drivers, and building your own sub enclosures or purchasing Marty ported enclosures. I tried this with sealed enclosures from PE and crown drive core amp, but sold them as I liked the response of the ported ones better, on tuning with a minidsp and umik.

I'm describing a scenario where the amp fails in a few years and either it's out of warranty or you don't want to ship the whole subwoofer back since the packing has long since been thrown away (the box and foam are huge and not easily stored). To their credit Monoprice replaced my amps without difficulty but they may run out of replacement amps in the future. Buying a replacement plate amp from a third party vendor might not be an option if none are the right size and wattage, hence drilling out binding posts and connecting an external amp is my plan *if* it fails again and monoprice can't replace it.

I'm pointing all this out because this sub is a $1000 investment and amp failure for monoprice subs is well documented. Does this mean the true failure rate is worse compared to other vendors like SVS or Hsu? I can't say but, with my experience, I'd wager its worse. Because of this I've made plans to deal with a broken amp if monoprice can't. I think this is still a good deal but know what you're walking into.

Great deal… as long as the amp doesn't fizzle as I've read above. Always wanted a pair of these… or a pair of the dual 10" M-212's… until then, my B&W's will keep the bottom end

If after 5 years of warranty, the amp in this thing dies, I'd suggest you replace it with an external amp.

Plate amps are difficult to repair (almost impossible to find schematics), and could require some woodworking skills to retrofit with a different brand.

So if it helps anyone, I have both of my M12s protected by a power filter.Absolutely no amp issues in the last 5 plus years, in case that has anything to do with it.

I have one and every once in a while I have to unplug it for a few minutes and plug it in. It'll be good for anywhere from a week to a month. Then I'll see the light blinking red to green it's an awesome sub. Very big and heavy and great bass. Paid 1500 for mine. Worth every penny.

I have 3 15"s. Two V1s and one V2. The V2 amp failed within 3 months and mono price wants me to send the entire damn thing back to be fixed. Learned my lesson. I'll stick to Hsu or SVS and pay more next time.

Are they making you pay return shipping?
