There is no such thing as future proofing with computers.. Been in the industry for almost 40 years in business myself for 30. I'll advise you as I have hundreds of thousands of clients over the years. Spend less, upgrade more often. This is a great card for the price. Don't always anticipate future price moves. Memory whether it is in GPU, Ram, SSD etc is volatile. Right now pretty low but in my career I've seen 300% increases in a month. The performance difference is about 11% lower from 4060 but price difference is more. The 16gb vs 8gb is pretty much a non-issue for 1080p gaming. If you are looking at higher res..you need to be looking at 4070 Super or 7800XT minimum. This card pairs well with the low priced i5-12600kf which has run as low as $140-$150 or Ryzen 7600X right around $200-$220.
You are equating the price release of a new product based on "open box," price and in some cases probably be a used gpu if someone decides to just not want it anymore a week along the line. By that logic any first party or 3rd party would be selling that item at A 100% GUARANTEED LOSS with that kind of pricing. I live near microcenter and even I think that's an absurdly ridiculous pricing. Your logic would be best applied to older series of gpu, the 6650, the 6600, the 3080, etc. Hell, the rx 580 took almost 2 years till i managed to buy one new for $80 and that one was actually legit albeit taking a month to ship from china.

Also, you have to remove the smooth brain gamer brain mindset that just because you saw it at that price at a microcenter, doesn't mean that that's the price it should go for. If you were to ask anyone who has a ever built or bought a PC I guarantee you that 9/10 times they would say that they didn't buy it off microcenter. I build PC's for a living and the heavy discounts I get from heading directly to Microcenter to buy on sales is basically the profit I make since the labor only takes me less that 1hr of assembly.

But going by your logic as the seller, I would have to 1. Base my price on the lowest price/discount/ sales /preowned (despite it being new) pricing of all the parts for the pc. 2.Further lower my price because most of the time microcenter has it by average 10% lower price.

I might as well give the buyer a $50 gift card and take him to dinner by that logic. And that's just the entry level and mid-gpu. Now Imagine if were talking about high end that costs 500-1100 dollars.

There is a difference between being a frugal spender and being and a tightwad cheapskate.

That's about right. The 6650 is pretty far from high end, it's solidly mainstream. But from the data it can handle every game really nicely at 1440p, just no RT. it can probably do RT in small amounts, too, depending on game.

If I didn't have a video card, and I was making less than $50/hr, this is probably the card that I would get.
6650 can not handle every game at 1440p. 6650 can play some older games & esports at 1440 but it's still a 1080p card. Struggles to maintain 60fps on AAA games even when using upscaling. Not to mention AMD 6xxx series cards do not even function properly due to AMD not knowing how to code proper drivers and software. Anyone here with an RX6xxx series able to use HAGS? No, I didn't think so.

I don't have a 6650. I'm just extrapolating as it seems to be about the same as GTX1080 in metrics. My 1080 is holding up surprisingly well, so I figured the 6650 would about the same.

I am thinking about getting Micro Center has AMD Ryzen 7 7700X + MSI B650-P Pro Motherboard + 32GB G.Skill Flare X5 Series DDR5-6000 Memory Computer Build Bundle on sale for $349.99 but currently have a G-Force 1060 card. Is it worth upgrading to this card or should I keep my current one?

The 6650 XT is *ballpark* of 2x the performance of a 1060.

Here's a Youtube video showing a 1060 vs a 6600 XT :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfykPvwx11A

The 6650 XT is bit better tahn 6600 XT, but I only saw the 1060 vs 6600 comparison without much searching.

You would get far more gaming performance putting that money into a new
graphics card and keeping your existing PC, as long as the power supply is sufficient.

An upgrade to a 6700 XT 12GB would be nice. (much faster than 7600 XT 16GB)

I'm currently running
amd ryzen 5 2600x
msi b450 gaming plus (ms-7b86)
GeForce 1060
32gb ram (just upgraded from 16)
850 psu

So just keepu current setup and get a new video card? Mostly playing Fortnite and Valerant. Not sure if a video card will make much difference on those games?

If it's fast enough now, no need to do anything. nod

It seems you're already getting 60 FPS or close at 1080p in those games.

With that power supply, you can upgrade to pretty much any graphics card in the future if you ever need to.
As for 32GB RAM, go into task manager, click performance and make sure your system recognizes all 32GB.
I went from 8GB to 32GB but my computer only recognized 16GB until I fixed it.

I did not know, since This PC > Properties showed 32GB. I had no idea until I saw 16GB in task manager.

Thanks for the advise, I'll save my money for now. I'll probably be good for another 2 years then w the upgraded memory.

No problem, I finally learned my lesson after putting together 5+ unnecessary desktops.
I'm sure there are some people who take it much further. It can be an expensive hobby!

I wouldn't even get a new video card unless you want to increase the resolution you game at, and if that's the case then you want more than a 1080p card which is all the 6650xt is.

I run fortnite at 1440p on a 6600xt but I have to turn down a few settings to maintain 60fps, can't have everything on epic and have to run with no ray tracing.

You overlooked something major. Microsoft saying your perfectly eligible computer can't run their OS.

What do you think pairing this card with a I7-4790K (I know is old but Is what I have with a GTX970)

This PowerColor card or the MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 3060 12GB 15 Gbps 192-Bit?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...0DER&psc=1

The MSI has more ram and is 192 bit but otherwise the PowerColor seems to have the better stats. Both around the same price
