A good use case for something like this would be a guy who does tints for a living. I read a review he loved not being corded when working on cars.

I guess i miss read your comment. Corded heat guns are usually 1500 watts. That inverter average is 150watt. I dont of any good battery inverters for 1500w

Normal price: $20, on sale frequently for $15 (or less)

This is something like an 86%-90%+ discount compared to this cordless Ridgid.
Heat guns are something with a finite lifespan -- as much as they don't advertise it, the heating elements inside are rated for X hours of use. So it's not a matter of IF you'll be replacing them, but when. The Ridgid has a "Lifetime Service Agreement", which is NOT a warranty. It just means IF they think it failed in a manner they want to repair, then YOU can pay for shipping and send it to an independent tool repair shop that is "approved" by ridgid, hoping that they don't make it worse.
Harbor Freight's add-on 2 year warranty coverage is just $5 more...and you can drop the device off in person and get a replacement off the shelf that very same day. No fuss, no muss.
So ask yourself, is going cordless worth the 86-90% price savings? Or are you the sort of person who thinks that if you simply spent more, you got something better?

Yeah harbor freight's are cheap junk, I was using one wrapping automotive parts with vinyl wrap and the thing started smoking like crazy in less than a minute of using it, I quickly unplugged it and threw it outside in the yard because I thought it was going to catch fire it was smoking so bad. Complete junk.
Because I've used HF heat guns in the past, no issues whatsoever. And yeah, they are cheap -- but fairly decent quality for a $12 device.
Most corded heat guns are ~1500W and output about 5100 BTU. This Ridgid is rated at only 1100 BTU. There are probably some use cases where the lower heat output could be beneficial, but to anybody considering this tool, don't go into it thinking you'll be getting normal corded heat gun power & performance.
As someone who uses a heat gun for work at times doing HVAC I recently picked up the Dewalt version as I was tired of dragging a 100' cord at times for my plug in model. I can't compare the DeWalt with this model but most will agree DeWalt is level or superior to this brand. With that said I've never seen a more worthless tool. The corded version is light years ahead and I can't think of any scenario where the average home owner is money ahead buying a cordless over a corded unless obviously no power available. Where the problem is with the DeWalt is more the fan speed. Even set to high its pitiful. I was trying to get liquid refrigerant out that had migrated to a compressor and causing it to trip on high Amps on start up and got so frustrated I went and got my 100' cord in a blizzard and went that route with my old heat gun. The idea is neat, but a cordless heat gun is a big nope for me.
It's funny but Metabo HPT has the best heat gun with 2 temp settings, a digital gauge where you can set the tempurature and ez collet where you can remove the attachment without actually touching it.
But with realistic expectations of what these guns can do, going cordless can be a big benefit for situations in which high heat is not required to get the job done.

You are absolutely right however, myself and many others have had a good reason to use a cordless heat gut. My options were, bring a generator on a 1 mile hike or a cordless heat gun. A propane torch was not an option.
This deal is pretty good, considering that you get 2 4AH batteries with it. On top of that, they are lifetime warranty. Ridgid is the only tool maker that offers a lifetime warranty on batteries.
Additionally, your cheap HF tool is corded. It does not come with batteries or a charger, which is the majority of the value of this deal. You're comparing apples to rutabagas.
I agree, have a lot of Ridgid tools and beat them to death. Had a shop light and my favorite small sub impact that quit working. Both times no hassle they paid for shipping and got both back within a few days.
I own this one.
This cordless heat gun can shrink stuff but cannot melt solder in the "quick solder" connectors.
In short, this heat gun is NOT a replacement for corded heat guns by any stretch of imagination, I find it is barely adequate to shrink tubings.
