Is this still a good deal if you keep the battery? Or am I still better off returning the battery and buying different one?

Biggest dewalt battery I have is 1.7ah so I think ideally I'd need something bigger for this.

Also been debating between the 3/8in and 1/2in models.

The price is good if you keep it all but you can reduce price by returning tools and do the same process over.
Depending on how you use the tool will determine if 3/8 or 1/2 is best for you.
If you are a heavy user and you drain your 1.7 than a 4,5 or 6ah would be a good addition.

There is also a $199 bundle set with the same items at home depot, if you want to keep the battery.

Is this overkill to have just for use as a new homeowner?

Depends on what you intend to do with it. IMHO the 3/8 and larger are really intended for nuts and bolts, e.g. automotive work and the like. I have a 1/4" drive version that I use the hell out of around the house, useful in particular for driving screws and lags. It has power like a legit drill, but is smaller and lighter weight. I'm also really fond of hex shank bits, which my Dewalt impact accepts. Makes changing bits out a lot quicker.

You can get a certified recon kit with two drills, two batteries and a charger at Bigskytool.com for $159! Super sweet deal… they do the reconditioning themselves in house, and are certified by dewalt to do so.

Cheaper than the eBay bare tool price of ~$135. Been wanting one of these for a long time.

Alright, I ordered one! Time for some USA Williams impact sockets...

I have 2 20-volt 1.5 ah batteries that came with my drill. Are those enough for the 3/8 for light duty home automotive work for cars. I do basic automotive for our personal cars such as brake jobs and looking for something powerful enough to take off lug nuts. Cars are Camry, chrysler 200 and Genesis G80.

would M12 FUEL Stubby 3/8 be better for diy auto maintenance/repairs or not as much power? I have both kind of batteries so it doesn't matter.

This was the same question I had and was waiting for the stubby to go on sale for quite some time. The price was the kicker for me.

Not as much power M12 250 fps vs atomic 450 *on paper*.
Torque test channel on YouTube did a great comparison the DEWALT won by quite a margin but the still like the stubby as well.

The DeWalt has more torque, but it's also larger. For me, as long as the torque is adequate for the fasteners that I'm attacking, the size of the tool (with battery) is a more important factor.

Thanks. Agreed. As long as I can remove majority of the typical fasteners for common maintenance like brake job, fluid changes; lightness and compactness is what I would prefer.

Be careful if using the 'Hack'. I purchased the deal and the battery showed up as 111.94 on my invoice. When I picked it up in the locker and immediately went to do the return in store, they only gave me 97.27 - The person behind the counter said "Well that's the way it scanned".
"Well that's not what I paid" - after "some discussion" and getting the manager involved they gave me the rest of the return in cash.
