that is way too much to spend for that small of an upgrade. wait for zen 5
FYI micro center currently has it at this price too. Plus they are running a 10% back on your entire purchase when you buy a processor and use their credit card in the same transaction 👀

Ehhh, HAS it? I got one about a year ago for $300. It's holding that price surprisingly well considering it has a next-gen replacement. Must be because it's the best possible processor for AM4, so it holds its value like the 4790k did 10 years ago.

At this price I think I'll upgrade my 5800x and sell the old chip on Marketplace. Seems like they still go for about 180-190. I'll hold onto my nice 64GB of RAM and my nice Asus board for a while. Pairs nicely with the 3090.

I upgraded from a 5800x (went to my kids system)to 5800x3d and it's much faster, almost generational boost in performance in most simulation heavy (like star citizen) , but most games will still see an improvement in my experience any am4 gaming system it be a noticable improvement that Vcache is really that good. I have a water-cooled mobo (Asrock Aqua x570 so wanted to max it out since it's still plenty fast.

Yeah I caved and bought the full combo- if I'm lucky I'll be out less than $100 on the upgrade after I sell everything. That's a win in my book.
