A slider allows you to cut wider pieces at the expense of accuracy, unwieldy size, higher weight, and more dollars.

How big is the stuff that you need to miter? This one can cross cut up to 8" and put a 45° miter on a 6" piece.

Unless your baseboard is super extra tall, I recommend a fixed miter saw for that and use a circular saw with a guide like a speed square for cutting your 2x12s.
My Makita slider with a Forrest blade is the ticket for tall baseboard and 7 inch crown work. Do not get a cheap blade for finish work and you will get better results. My tolerance is 1/32 of an inch on my painted finish work. But then the Forrest Chopmaster blade costs as much as this DeWalt saw.
