Now they've done it...
New wording for Metro unlock policy:

https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...ock-policy

"Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date."

Should obviously only apply to purchases made after they changed the rules.
But might have to fight for that...

Your account number is your google voice phone number. The pin is the one you set up in Google voice to check voice messages.

So OTP stands for online temporary password?
To login into your metro account you're going to use metro number and pin you set during purchase.

Once you activate you phone Metro will send you six digit code to login into your online account. Every time you want to login metro will send you code (pain but extra layer of security)

Now my phone is active on Metro and Google, and it will remain the same for 30 days (in fact, 21 days as the next billing cycle prorated with the old number).

All I want is a number to be registered on the Metro network. It will never roll back, get unregistered, etc. After 30 days, the line will be suspended, and I am done anyway.

You will go through all the hassle to reclaim it if you care about that number.

If everything fails and the phone doesn't get unlocked after 180 days, I will sell it as a metro phone.
I believe it is a big big mess to reclaim the number and try to correct it. You are right. In your case, don't do anything and wait 6 months to see whether it is unlocked or not.

I see many people port the number in Metro and port out the same within 30 days to another service provider. They mentioned their phones got unlocked after 180 days.

Metro is not unlocking phones manually but using some sort of algorithm (manually by human is too much). So once it is active on the network, that 180-clock clock will start on their system, and it will get unlocked (unless you throw away that metro sim). I got all the information from someone who posted earlier on this same thread and many other metro threads.

Hmmm, someone said after a couple of days, it'll reset though and you can try again? I think my issue was having call in voicemail turned off by accident... I might have tapped it by accident the other night after setting a pin... and then the phones were sold out.
Correct, the GV is reset after a couple of days and Metro will say that your GV number is valid again to port-in to MetroPCS, but at the end of ordering process, the transfer process is cancelled during communication between Google & MetroPCS. This has happened to my two GV already.

After a couple of days, it will reset only on the MetroPCS side. On the Google side, it is still treated as an already port-out number and that number will not have the lock or unlock option.

I've used it before but it's been a couple of years and I think they used to be Boost numbers for like $7. I have a couple Ting sim kits that include the free $30 of starter service, but they use Tmo, so I doubt the number would qualify for the promos.

There's always the US Mobile route for $5ish. But I have a feeling if thousands start abusing it, they'll be like mobileX and start charging to port out, etc.

Yes, I ported out my metro number under 30 days and the phone still unlocked at 180. It doesn't auto unlock. Depending on the phone manufacturer you either run an app (Samsung) or there's an unlock option in the settings (One plus, Motorola, TCL, etc)
Quote from Ybdri :
I have probably over 30 metro phones and have had no trouble having ported out numbers unlock after 180 days.

Check out the poster above, who ported his phone within 30 days and is still unlocked after 180 days.

Can someone clarify if the phone will auto unlock in 6 months or not? I am planning to buy it as a gift for someone oversees and will be there around +6 months from now. Only worth it if it unlocks automatically for me.

I have not done this, but many have posted on other threads that they have done it successfully.

Just activate the device on Metro. After that, keep the SIM on the phone and connect to the WiFi network when it is time to unlock. It should work since SIM is not more activated, so it is not looking for metro towers overseas, but the wifi connection connects to the server for an unlock request.

If I port to Total after 29 days of service will it still unlock in 180 days.
