Ugh! I literally just bought this exact one from this exact seller @ $95. Great deal. The seller has a pretty good reputation and warranties these for 5Y. Reddit comments suggest it's pretty easy to do an exchange when one fails. Yes, these are used enterprise drives.

I'm attaching the SMART data from the one I bought on Feb 20th. It doesn't look like they clear the SMART data as another commenter suggested.

Edit - I contacted the seller and asked if they'd price-match since I'm still within the return period. If they say no I'll drop it, but I figured it didn't hurt to send an email and ask.

Edit2- They responded a couple of hours later with the following message:

So I'm glad I emailed them. They seem to have pretty good customer service.
Considering current pricing, this is a respectable deal since it's via one of the "big 2" enterprise refurb sellers right now (goharddrive and serverpartdeals).
Yeah, it's essentially used and the only refurbishing was probably them clearing SMART and running a format on the drive but get over it or move along.
Yes, it's a large drive and you might lose data but how is that different from normal, have backups and ideally this should be part of some sort of array with parity or similar uptime protection.

The only potential "negative" is that since this is a smaller drive at 12TB, you're more likely to get an older vintage with some more miles on the tires vs buying a similar enterprise refurb 18TB drive for example. The larger drives just haven't been around as long so they're generally not as well traveled as their smaller and potentially older counterparts.

Still, nice price.

Edit - According to the HC520 family data sheet, this E601 model is the "512e SATA 6Gb/s" variant.
Whew.. That was close.. I almost bit but the coupon is dead.. Money is still safe in my pocket.

So I got mine and plugged it in, and SMART was not cleared. Says it has 22K hours of use.
for a NAS use, with SHR, I just replaced a WD drive that had 35K hours on it because it failed during a data scrubbing.
The other refurb drive I got from Amazon only had 4K hours on it. Should I return this and order another one of theirs for $50 more? I know these have 2.5M hours 'lifetime' but ive rarely seen a drive get over 50K in normal circumstances.
The refurb I got that I was going to return has ...17 hours and 2 power on cycles, with 22gb written to it. for $50 more I think I might keep that over this

22,000 hours is 2.5 years. That's not bad to me.
4'000 hours on a data center drive sounds unusual . That's 167 days.
Goharddrive has a good 5 year warranty, so they must believe they will last at least 5 years.

Pissed I missed it! I was asleep at the wheel! I was waiting for $80.
I only needed one so bought at the higher $90 price. My data is still backed up on other drives, but Im trying to consolidate everything onto one drive for offsite storage.

Do I need to be worried? I just tested my drive with CrystalDiskInfo and it shows everything in the green. But I did notice a "reallocated sector count" of 5. Is this normal?

I finally got around to plugging in my drive via an external enclosure. however, i'm having difficulty accessing the drive. The first one powers up and i can hear the drive spinning, however, once in a while, i can hear a click notice, and the drive will go on and off therefore showing up in the disk management and disappearing. Then now, when i look in Disk management, it will show disk not initialized, and when i tried to click offline, it says access denied. Any idea? I do not have a desktop, so i have to test it in an external enclosure before sticking it into my qnap.
