Bad use case imo. These need space around them and no one could stand in front of it. Also quite loud. Radiant heaters (standup as you refer to them?) are what you want

Uses Multiple Fuels: K-1 Kerosene, Diesel Fuel, #1 and #2 Heating Oil, Jet-A, and JP-8

This is common. If you have clean cooking grease, you can also burn it.

Yeah, even the convection type with a wick allow it, but you're more likely to wear out the wick faster. Still a nice option in a pinch

Thanks for pointing this out. I was going to go for the $69 propane one, but being able to use diesel or COOKING GREASE is a huge perk. I went for that one instead.

how loud are these units?

Thinking of using these in my open patio and putting covers on the side of the patio to retain the heat during parties instead of using a standup heater that only heats one general area.

The diesel ones sound like a jet engine. Very noisy. Also the fumes from the diesel can get overwhelming if in enclosed area. When they run out of diesel they give a huge puff of smoke. Probably not what you want when entertaining.

Propane one is quiter and less fumes. Propane one is more expensive over time if you are paying $20 to fill the bbq tanks.

I use a propane one to heat up my shop when I need to work on something.

I was getting about 2 days of use per 20lb tank. (24x35 non insulated shop) Definitely helped when it was near freezing being able to raise the temps even 15-20* to be productive. Not cost effective to do regularly, but I definitely saved a lot of money vs paying a shop for the repairs.

Just like immabass said, these sound like jet engines, the propane version too. We used these for heating spackle in unoccupied unheated houses. Definitely not for ambient heat in a social setting.
