is it good for beginer?
Yes it is a great beginners real. put it on a med/light or just straight medium rod and you are good to go. This will work fine for fresh water if you use it in tidal or straight salt water make sure you rinse it of thoroughly and lube it. You will get many years use out of it that way. good luck!

This shouldn't be used for saltwater it is for small line.
Small trout panfish bass I agree tho good for beginners
Question for those in the know. I got mine today and the box "unrolled" and I dropped the real. Seems like when I open the bail I have to be pretty forceful/reel hard to close the bail by operating the reel. Also it came with a certificate and a parts diagram but no manual or anything. Anyone get a manual with theirs? Also with the bail is that normal operation? Just trying to figure out if I got an open box or damaged it when I dropped it. Thanks!

I found this in regards to the manual[abugarcia.com]. And Walmart is usually pretty good about doing exchanges if you want to replace it with another one just in case.

All depends on what you're fishing for and skill level. I've brought in a 65lbs+ bat ray on 12lbs mono before while surf fishing. It's not easy and the reel (Abu Ambassador 6500) itself was maxed out on drag and slipping thus I had to pull the line in for the last 10-15 feet by hand. Bat rays are intense fighters if you've never hooked one before. The point being almost any reel can be used for saltwater as long as it's cared for properly and smaller line can be used as well providing you aren't trying to land something powerful or big which happened by accident in my instance, but worked out to my surprise without the line snapping.

I mean I get what you are saying but looking at your Abu Ambassador 6500 for one it says it's a bait caster?!? Meant for saltwater and has a
Line capacity of (yards/lb. test): 255/17.Also cost $64 at Academy and is a totally different beast than the little spinning reel here.Is that yours?
Can you use this little spinner for saltwater well sure but should you is another story 😄 The ocean is full of all kinds of crazy fish when you fish in a lake or river fish you generally know what you are targeting and what your gonna get.

Saltwater reels just require less maintenance.

Both have 4 BB and line capacity is the same.
