To add on, most people also still have many 3.5mm headphones, which the 9th Gen still has a port for. 10th Gen is only Bluetooth audio which is the present and future but even tech nerds hate Bluetooth connections. Bluetooth audio is amazing once it is rockn and rolln but it is also a royal pain up the ass at the least desirable of times
Seems like inflation has kept this product from depreciation. Still way overpriced imo. It was this price last year.
This is MORE than enough for basic media consumption. That it. Nothing else. 90% of America would be happy with it.
Think of this like basic car as Toyota Corolla. Need more "room and power"? Spend more for a Camry; not settling for a Corolla lol

This 9th iPad great value for $180-250 AMEX /Red Circle. Fits right in with $100-300 iPhone SE 128gb.
A13 chip is still modern goes up against Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 well and will get 4 years of updates.
A10 Fusion is hella old. M1 and M2 is hella overkill even for $400.
Just wish there's $320 128—256gb version. 64gb is doable for light apps, web, YouTube, video streaming.
I have two of 9th ipad for over a year. It totally fast.
Still the value king compared to Amazon fire, Lenovo, Onn with weaker 2024 Mediatek chips
A13 was released in 2019, Apple is going to support it until 2028?

Can never say for sure but it's not that unlikely. The 2017 iPad Pro and Apple TV 4K, both of which have the A10X Fusion in them, are still running the latest iPadOS and tvOS.
Also, for Apple stuff the better metric to go by is the date that the last device with a given chip was released. In the case of the A13 Bionic, that's in the iPad 9th gen which came out in late 2021.

To firm up that data point, the iPad Pro 2017 models will not be getting iPadOS 18. iPad Pro 2018 and later is the cutoff. That said, it should continue to get security updates for a few more years. E.g. Apple was still releasing iPadOS 15 security updates as of this March

A13/A12Z chips are in a whole other league compared to A10/A10X Fusion
I'm a bit confused, the iPad Pro 2017 models will not be getting iPadOS 18 and those have an A10X processor which was released in mid-2017. So wouldn't a device containing an A13 processor, released in 2019, get iPadOS updates for two more years?
This model of iPad isn't a speed demon, but it will run circles around the typical Android tablet available at this price point, especially if you can get it for $180. I keep cheap Android tablets around as app development test devices and they are impressively weak, not even being able to navigate around their home screens fluidly.
This is all fine if you don't mind the 2019 processor and horribly outdated/ugly home button/massive bezel design from a decade ago. I still can't believe that Apple is still using this horrible design for this model and the latest iPhone SE, given how great and modern pretty much all of their other products look.

At this price point the tradeoff is going to be somewhere. On Android tablets this is usually on things like build quality, display panel, and SoC — e.g. chintzy build, mediocre display, and incredibly underpowered SoC. Outdated design is minor compared to those.
The SoC is particularly relevant. iPad 9th gen might be using a 2019 SoC, but that's still much more powerful than what's shipping in low end Android tablets. The Lenovo M10 Plus 3rd gen that I bought a year or so back for example uses a SoC that's roughly on par with an iPhone from 2015, which is absurd for a device at any price point that's still being manufactured.

iPad 9 isn't a deal in 2025 and 2026 at $250.
Interesting, I'm curious why they just wouldn't link support to chipsets-I'm also curious how the 2015 A9 and 2016 A10 held up in 2023 and are holding up in 2024, respectively.

Hi, where is the 10th gen for $350?

So even if I can find better android tablets, I'd still take the ipad. Especially having been burnt by a $500 android tablet in the past (2012).

The weaker iPad only got 4-6 years of support. My dads ipad 2 still works on youtube browser and gmail which was launch 13 years ago.
