Think of this like basic car as Toyota Corolla. Need more "room and power"? Spend more for a Camry; not settling for a Corolla lol

Wrong
IpadOS 17.2 uses 10.08 gigabytes
System data uses 3.73 gigabytes
I have a 64 GB iPad
I have 36 apps installed
94 photos
And after the ipadOS AND 36 apps
I still have
39.09 GB AVAILABLE
I'm using a 4th gen iPad in the garage for vehicle maintenance reference data--that's hella old, and it's slow, but it manages to accomplish that still. The 9th gen is a competent device for general home use--web, email, smaller games, streaming media, etc. It can reasonably be expected to get the latest version of iOS for another three years, and it will get security updates beyond that. If someone's a casual user, needs a cheap iPad for kids, or if it's all they can afford, the 9th gen still brings value. Just not for you.
You are correct , I'm the same as you
He doesn't know what he's talking about
My ipadOS 17.2 and system data use 14 GB
I have 36 apps installed and still have
39.09 GB available
1080 HD movies are about 5GB
I could still load about 7 full movies and
1,300 songs or picture files
The next highest app is Facebook at ~1gb but 3/4 of that is documents, probably mostly cached images or videos. Most apps are a couple hundred MB and you could load tons and tons of them without running out of space. Sure, if your primary purpose is as a gaming machine or storing movies locally, then 64GB of storage is probably going to be limiting but for most anything else it would be fine. Even among games Hearthstone is a bit of an outlier. I've got a bunch more games installed on my iPhone and most of them are 1gb or less. If you've got a known use case for lots of storage space then sure go ahead and opt for something bigger but 64GB is hardly crippling. Needed storage space isn't about light usage vs heavy usage but about the type of usage. Just because it might not be enough for your usage doesn't mean it isn't useful for others.
Sure, an iPhone 15 comes with 128GB of storage but it's also several years newer design and starts out at over double the cost. A current gen iPad pro is more comparable on cost and also comes with a base storage of 128GB. As the base iPad is more of a budget device, for Apple, at this point. Sitting below both the iPad Pro and Air lines it's not surprising the base storage stays lower to reach that price point.

Sure, I could look at the Galaxy Tab A9+, but it has touchscreen tapping issues with a very mid-range processor.
Just need something for reading and basic media consumption if anything. 60Hz vs 90Hz vs 120Hz doesn't have any bearings for that.

with unlimited data, almost ubiquitous wifi and streaming, almost no one needs to have more than a few movies stored at any one time.
7 movies is about 14 hours of media viewing.
the average person does not need more than 64 GB of hard storage on a tablet

I blocked that guy, he is ridiculous and just an apple hater.
this is a post for a $249 tablet, if a person really needs all those other features he is complaining about, then they have to spend a lot more than $249 regardless if it is apple , samsung or some other manufacturer.

Thanks for the heads up. I just found out the 9th gen can even run Davinci Resolve. That's damn neat for a budget device.
I don't know the Android version of that. Technology really impresses me with what it can do.
Is it possible to fill up that space? Sure. Especially, with a lot of multimedia stuff.
Is 64gb still a fair bit of space? Yup and outside of multimedia stuff I doubt anyone would fill it up quickly.
If you want more space then buy a tablet with more. If you need to take your entire multimedia library with you then get more space. There is nothing stopping you from doing that but you don't need to resort to ridiculous exaggerations or calling this useless. This isn't going to be an Apple Watch Series 3. Its still going to have plenty of space left to install updates and plenty of space for lots of things.

For $250, that's not bad, especially given how a lot of basic apps don't need the latest iPadOS to run.
YouTube works with iPadOS 14 or later as an example.
People buying the 9th gen wouldn't be looking to run Photoshop and Davinci Resolve daily/reliably even though it runs those apps.
