Just a heads up that this does not include a pico remote
FYI, Walmart has several Lutron items marked down as "Clearance" including this item which is why Amazon is probably matching.

Walmart also has the official Lutron repeater box which has 60 feet of range compared to 30 feet with the hub and this dimmer.

I rarely ever see this thing go on sale, and it's currently $51.xx
I bought it instead. Can be powered by a USB cable too.

These also have the benefit of being a range extender for the Lutron signal.

We love these and the Caseta system, works light a normal switch/dimmer, but also smart. the in wall switches don't need a neutral, which is a plus. We're at over 7 years on our first pico remotes, still waiting for one to die.

The pro hub integrates via telnet. The standard hub does not. Please double check this, if you are correct something has changed since I bought mine.
Ah my bad. I definitely don't think Home Assistant integrate with Caseta Hub through telnet (probably normal local API).

I didn't know one could access an API by any means with the non-pro hub. Maybe something /did/ change. Do you have a link that describes what you did? Maybe Lutron had to loosen up to compete. I am genuinely curious as I have a non-pro hub at my folks' house and assumed I couldn't do anything exogenous to it.

Thanks!

Yes you can, this is absolutely wrong. I have at least 4 kilobucks of Caseta and have been configuring it since 2016.

To add multiple lights to a single Pico remote, add the remote to the hub then go to the configure page for the remote. A page pops up with a drop down list that says "select all the divices you wish to control from this remote." You cam select as many lights to control as desired.

You probably are just linking remotes directly to lights without using the hub.

Further, I have a Hubitat connected to the Pro version of the Caseta hub via telnet, so I can do arbritrary logic with all my Caseta devices. Caseta is the best performing (reliable) system I have tried for home automation. It operates at around 400 MHz so the low frequency penetrates walls and avoids interference in a way that 2.4 GHz just cannot do. Highly recommended if you are interested in home automation.
I never mentioned picos or using non-caseta hardware/software. Yes, you can control the lamp dimmer with a caseta pico. Can you tell me how to control a lamp dimmer from a caseta in-wall switch without non-caseta hardware/software?

Yep, you need a Hubitat or something external to do it.That's what the telnet feature is for.

If you want to avoid getting a backend logic box of some type, link a Pico to your switch and the other switches of interest and use that. Double tape the pico next to your switch amd put a double-gang plate around it and you are done.

Me neither before I set it up in Home Assistant! I always thought I have to buy the Pro hub and never found one sold by official channels, so I tested my luck with the standard hub in my starter bundle... It works.

It's different than a API key though, I feel like it's more of CA/Client certificate authentication since you'll need to download CA CRT, cert and a key from Lutron to use locally (I don't remember if I did that step... Maybe HA did it automatically).

This is HA's doc page: https://www.home-assistant.io/int...on_caseta/
This is the steps HA mentioned to retrieve the cert & keys: https://github.com/gurumitts/pylu...ng-started
I think this is the comment I saw on Reddit regarding difference between non-Pro and Pro hub for HA (I'm fairly new to Lutron Caseta): https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassi...t/izxpv3z/

Exactly, you cannot directly control a lamp dimmer from a caseta in wall switch. That would require additional hardware/software.

Doesn't that mean the person you quoted isn't absolutely wrong?

You are correct - there is no "local" API - any calls to Lutron API hit their cloud, then get sent to the devices in question via the hub.

The basics are:
Non-Pro Hub: API only
Pro Hub: API + telnet access

This is what I have done for a much of my setups. I have 1 smart switch that controls something - like a fan or a light, etc. Then for a 3-way switch, I put a pico up somwhere and give it control of the same fan/light/etc. It makes the install look very clean.

Lutron even makes a wall bracket mount for Pico remotes mounted this way.

I'm pretty sure Home Assistant's Lutron Caseta implementation is Local Push, independent of cloud...

Can someone clarify for me? If I currently have four caseta switches and a Lutron hub, does the range of my network become the zone wherein additional caseta switches will work? Or do they have to be in range of the actual Lutron hub, regardless of my mesh network coverage?
