Mine at 100% charge gets 175 miles of range (don't turn on the climate because that knocks it down to 160 miles), dealer says they are working on a fix. But won't look at the car.

You may want to look at the Hyundai Ioniq 6. Rated for 360 mile range on a 100% charge, and Hyundai's been doing $7,500 cashback to offset the ineligibility for federal credits. And if you're really lucky, your state won't charge sales tax—NJ didn't for mine.

Insurance is the reason to pass on EVs for now.
I replaced my 2014 Focus with a 2023 Bolt EUV and the same comprehensive coverage went up just over $6 per month. It's tough, but I can manage that.

I paid just over $20k on the Bolt after factoring in the $7500 tax credit. Sold the Focus for just shy of $8k (which is a stupid amount of money, but early 2023 used car prices were stupid). We put 90% of our miles on the Bolt and are saving around $1400/year in gas alone (this is after factoring in electricity cost).

The math simply works out in favor of the EV given our use-case. EVs aren't the right choice for everyone right now, but a lot of the anti-EV crowd also don't seem to understand EVs in general.

My insurance doubled when I bought a new EV. But guess what...my EV is 4x the value of my old car.

BTW the Solterra is Doug DeMuro's #1 worst car to buy. https://youtu.be/JTB2jDOFbz0

I guess its all about price, but:
1) If you are willing to go used, there are many EV models (see Fisker) that are practically being given away right now with low mileage. Its ridiculous how bad their resale value is.

2) While I haven't personally driven it, I love watching car reviews and for the Solterra... yeah, they were lackluster at best. Not as bad as the Mazda but basically slow charging, low range, and nothing greater in any other arena.

That said if you HAVE to go new then lease is the only logical way to buy a non-American EV because they won't otherwise qualify for the tax credit, and this isn't the worst EV, its just not that great.

Its a compliance vehicle, Toyota (and by extension Subaru since Toyota bought a big share of the company), really applied minimal effort here. They don't believe in EVs, but they know there are some markets where they have to sell some EVs.

Fiskers are being given away because the company is out of money and will shortly be out of business. Who would buy a nearly-new car with 0 warranty, parts availability, or anyone willing or able to ever fix it or do anything with the software?

At $ 40,000 .I wouldn't consider that as being given away.

A few years ago. When Volkswagen had their huge discounts. I Picked up a 2019 brand new e-golf. For $13,000 out the door. Best car I have had in quite some time. I bought it not lease.
its not nearly as fancy as these $40k+ cars. but works well for me. w 0 issues. ~77k miles so far.

And to finish the thought. Anyone purchasing that Fisker today at that price.. Needs their head examined

He's reviewing it like someone is paying $45-50k for it. If you paid that much then you deserve to be sore, lol.

I wish I could have gotten a Bolt deal years ago, but this 3 year lease is my bridge until better deals. Interest rate right now is Crazy

Yet in this deal we see the same problems and reliability issues. Are Subaru and Toyota not
typical EVs?

You ignore the true cost. Coal and wood is being burned to make components and parts and then again to charge batteries is not efficient and you do not account for all costs, China's coal plants are not efficient or clean and we all breathe the same air.. You also ignore the deforestation effects and the increased pollutants and toxic waste that we will have to deal with. You also ignore the mining and human slavery that also has it's costs.

Care to explain why EVs can drop near 60% in value after a year or so if they are so efficient and great. Cradle to grave for a EV is when the battery warranty runs out. That is going to have piles and piles of EV leaking toxins and heavy metals who knows where.
You know they recycle the batteries right? And use them multiple times. The materials are nearly 95% recyclable.

You really need to educate yourself, don't let them educate you.

Someday, before I die, I'm sure I will own an electric car when they can be what I expect a car to be. My son bought in early to the craze has had a few different kinds and still wants to believe even though he has had issues. For me he just proved I can't leave the city in one and If I had a need for a toy car I would have kept my R32 GTR. They will eventually be viable option for my life, but my 1998 Jetta TDI only has 58k miles, gets better MPG than an electric car and can travel farther than my bladder before needing a refill. They'll get there someday and for many now make perfect sense. I'm still waiting for one to fill my needs to make the price justifiable.

What about the bz4x? Clearly these are the same cars. Seems like Toyota can't design their own cars. This, The GT86 (Scion FRS), the Supra (BMW Z4)

Not sure what he owned, but that's not remotely true of most newer EVs that have access to L3 fast chargers, especially those with access to Tesla superchargers. It's trivially easy to take long road trips in those.

This is most certainly not true-- most of the more efficient EVs get north of 100 eMPG-- your Jetta does not.

Note the car in THIS deal doesn't really fit the above-- it's pretty trash on specs because Toyota EV tech is a decade behind-- but that's not representative of most EVs sold.
