As someone with a Quest 2 and a Quest 3.. I haven't touched my Quest 2 since the Q3 release, and I'd still highly recommend this deal, even without the gift card.

The Quest 2 still has quite a bit of life to it - it won't get the high-res textures in newer games, but Meta unlocked something like 30% extra power in the headset a while back, there's a huge backlog of quality games and even the newer games run on it (there might be a couple quest-3-exclusive games on it)

Much of the Quest3 benefit is going to be in the better lenses, the extra power (higher quality visuals) and the color passthrough, and I love all of these -- but the Quest 2 can still run games great.

I'd say the controllers on the Quest 2 might even track better than the Quest 3.

A couple quick notes/suggestions:

Use a referral code when activating your Quest, you'll get a bonus $30 store credit.
Whenever buying a game from the store, use a referral code and you'll save 25% instantly. Both of these are easy to find.

Buy the "Quest Games Optimizer" (3rd party tool) which will let you adjust the quality of games, like resolution and power. Many of them are not optimized and can look considerably better with this add-on
You could buy from Target and return the new unopened one to Walmart?
I completely respect the significant price difference, but… the 3 not having one specific visual "sweet spot" you have to align to perfectly, thanks to pancake vs fresnel lenses, is a huge difference for me and has meant I am now unable to use my 2. However, if you have never used either, for $150, this is a cheap entry point. But, once you use the Q3's lenses….

My work computer does not let me reply to comments, only create new ones... but I am wondering the same as Jpeace above.

I am totally knew to this kind of thing, but have been wanting to try it out for myself, and the kids as well.

Is this a standalone thing then, or do i need a playstation or something to hook it up to? Are there a lot of games of kids 10 years and younger to play?

This is standalone unit but is capable running off a pc. There's a variety of games for all ages from shooters to casual games like rock climbing and simulators. There's a handful of kid games, so it would be limited for them. I just got mine a week ago, so far enjoying the immersion with all the games.

I don't think this is a good deal for all.

I mean like If you buy this and theoretically don't like it you would have to pay back the GC. GC is not free to keep when returning.

That's why the retention rate is higher for the MQ3 than this despite the higher price tag though it an improvement in user experience hence less chance to return.

All in all, statistics is one thing but users are still people
I honestly do not understand most of what you're trying to say here.

I'm not an expert (will let others chime in) but you can definitely load games directly on the headset. We are doing a trial of the Quest+ subscription and my 12 year old really likes the Sports Scramble game and The Climb. Our older one is loving Resident Evil 4 (not part of the subscription). All of these were loaded directly on the headset and we are not tethered to a computer (although there is pcvr if you have a gaming computer but we haven't tried that yet). We also plan on using the device in connection with batting practice and are planning on using it outdoors - no computer in sight.

Depends on how large your frames are. I used the included spacer and my frames are average and it wasn't terrible. That said, I did buy prescription lenses from HonsVR for like $65 and I don't regret it.

Same old argument as in all the other threads, pay $200 for this or $500 for the 3 or wait for the 3 lite or S which has no release date but is rumored to be using the same lenses as the 2.

I really like VR, but if I was given the full purchase price I paid ($250) to put toward the 3, I wouldn't. I don't play it enough the justify paying more. I'm over 40 and primarily play walkabout mini golf with my Wife. My daughter is 20 and would trade up in a second for the 3, she plays VR chat on Steam (PCVR) with the 2 and also has a Valve Index with full body tracking.

I think the quest 3 lenses are the biggest reason to upgrade so if the quest 3 lite has the same lenses I would jump on this deal.

yea the retention rate of the MQ3 is higher thus the higher price therefore brings more satisfaction to the user even at a price premium versus the MQ2. uhhhhh hahaha oh boy this guy kills me

Yes I am pretty sure that they each have a serial number so you can't buy it one place and return it at another.

But does the receipt from Walmart have that UPC code? If not, then I guess you can.

Walmart is a lot more strict now adays.i tried to do this with a router a while back and noticed that they print the serial number of the router on the receipt. During the return They will verify serial number on the physical unit vs what's printed on the receipt and will deny the return.

Just to summarize a bit... the Quest 2 is still perfectly serviceable and usable. My biggest complaint is that I got the 64 GB version and we were always running out of space. I got my kid a Quest 3 and I took over the Quest 2. I play less AAA games so I can manage it better.

The Quest 3 has much better resolution and pass through (i.e. seeing the real-world when you're wearing the headset). They are about the same weight but the 3 is more comfortable. The controllers/tracking are better on the 3. I think the directional sound is better on the 3 as well.

You can play plenty of games on these completely standalone on the headset. For more graphics-intensive games you need to hook it up to a PC, which can be done wirelessly. You need solid 5GHz internet or even Wifi 6e. You can plug a long USB cable from the headset to the PC, but wireless is far more comfortable and less restrctive.

You can acquire free games pretty easily. It takes some effort to set up, then it's super easy.

It's impossible to recommend one over the other because people are split into two camps. I think VR is the biggest gaming jump in my lifetime since Atari to NES. I play it several times a week and my kid plays almost daily. Other people see it as a novelty and only play a handful of times then it mostly collects dust.

Could you be more specific on how to do this? I'm trying to find it myself.

Man, I got mine at Christmas for $200 thinking that's an all time low. Wish I picked up this for essentially $150.

It's a coupon target circle where you get 10% off the max of 15 so I'll get 15 if you buy this
