The CPU design is approaching 10 years old. One could likely put Linux on it and use it for light duty tasks, but it's limited. I have a low end laptop with an even older chip that I still use (with Linux) for web surfing at the in-laws.

This Chromebook could be useful to some as an adjunct system, just understand what you are getting and be sure it fits your use case.

as long as it can open google docs it's a win, keyboard and better battery and much cheaper than IPAD, keyboard combo.
