Just wanted to verify my timeline for doing this is right.
- Buy Galaxy a14 on Monday.
- Two day shipping, arrives Wednesday. (Business Day #2)
- Pay off phone Wednesday and make a call/text. (Can I pay off phone earlier - before it arrives?)
- Cancel service Thursday (Business Day #3 - last day to avoid activation fee)
- Leave in drawer without service for 60 days, tweak apps, SD card, settings....
- Unlocked automatically
- Use on any USA network (probably US Mobile).

I tried an XFinity Mobile SIM after I paid off the phone and it worked. I didn't have a GSM SIM to check. I activated the phone with the included Verizon SIM and made a phone call. I cancelled with CS as soon as I confirmed it was unlocked.

Thanks, did your phone come as unlocked automatically or did you use the att sim trick to unlock it first (before you tried the Xfinity sim)?

Xfinity mobile is Verizon network so it would work even locked still.

Look at

iPhone is locked by going to Settings > General > About. If "No SIM restrictions" appears next to Carrier Lock, your iPhone is unlocked

can also look up IMEI on sickw.com free service will says if iphone is unlocked.

Phone was paid off in corporate store. There is one near my house so I just went to not have any problems. It took the agent a couple minutes but he was able to get the phone paid off. I turned the phone on with the included Verizon SIM in the phone. I don't think the phone came unlocked. I paid off the phone before it arrived because I received an email that it was already activated the day I purchased it and it took 5 days from Cali to Chicago.

I called again and I was able to pay off. It looks like you have to wait a day after activation. If you try to pay off immediately after activation it may not allow. Next step is to cancel the service

One more update: I called again and was able to disconnect service. Please do not use the Verizon app to disconnect service. It doesn't disconnect immediately. Call the 611 and request for disconnect.
