Lowe's and Messi will "assist" Lowe's loyalty customers with 100 points to get them closer to their next reward through Lowe's new loyalty program for homeowners, MyLowe's Rewards, and Lowe's MVPs Pro Rewards for Pros. MyLowe's Rewards members must claim points on their account dashboard by May 18.*

edit: other thing I'm hating about a lot of new programs.. once you gain the benefit (in this case, $5), you are on the clock to use it... for lowes, it will expire in 60 days.
Will I completely regret doing that when they come through at the most inconvenient time? Yep. Will Future Me remember...and be able to turn them off in the future? Nope! But Current Me is enjoying my free 500 Points!

Better yet, Home Depot is usually free shipping, you can now use the military discount online, AND you still get the discount on sale and clearance items. Lowe's is regular price items only

They make money based off the sales number not how many people made purchase so wouldn't it be more beneficial to attract big sum spenders with something better than 0.5% rewards? Even CC would have better incentives and they nag me about opening commercial account whenever they see large total as well.
When my buddy got hired to work at HD almost 20 years ago, I asked about employee discount, and he said nothing thanks to contractors.
Points programs are classic marketing b.s. to make a game of shopping and unfortunately, casual shoppers eat it up whenever they see "get 100 bonus points when you buy..." but it isn't really a useful savings for deal seekers at the rates offered by Lowes. Just use the 5% off from the credit card and call it a day.
If you care to look, Ace Hardware has much better rewards - $5 off $25 / $20 off $100 coupons every month. 10 points earned/$1 spent, redeemed for $5 after earning 2500 (spend $250 get $5 or 2% back) with a ~3 month expiration.
