Not many features the series 9 have over the 7. Top differences are the precision finding if you have a compatible iPhone and offline Siri. Nice to have but I wouldn't consider it worth double the price.

this is true, i bought a cellular 7 one year ago thinking that i'd just turn off the cellular and have a slightly larger battery that might last a little longer. nowadays the battery is also 87%, and if i do just one 20 minute workout, it sometimes is at 10% at bedtime. total wear time is something like 15 hours. i do get a ton of notifications from one of my cameras, so that might have something to do with it. don't know if this is a series 7 problem or a general apple watch problem but this one is the first one i've owned that i've gotten low battery notifications from consistently.

thanks but i already have background tasks turned off and have unloaded almost every app from the watch that i don't need. when i talk about camera notifications, i'm talking about once every 30 seconds during some periods, as i live on a busy street and cars trigger the camera over and over again.

there's no denying the battery capacity is at 87% after a year, and that's the cause of the short runtimes. i had a friend who worked at apple tell me they don't really have any good way to know up front whether a particular battery is going to work well or not, so i think it's just the luck of the draw. this is probably the 5th or 6th apple watch that i've owned and it's the first one to have battery problems like this.

There's no sign that it's refurbished, but I received mine with the green snake of death. After charging a few hours, I linked it to the iphone and updated it. Tried setting it up, but I'm getting all kinds of connection errors with most of the apps. My iPhone is right next to it and I confirmed they're both on the same reliable and fast wifi. I'll be taking it to an apple store tomorrow to see what they say.

I have that on my Series 7. There are 4 options. What you are referring to as "double tap" is called Double Pinch. There is also Pinch, Clench and Double Clench.
Go to Settings-> Accessibility-> Assistive Touch-> Hand Gestures.
