Que the "why is this a gaming laptop" debates.

I have this laptop. Love it for my needs and casual non AAA titles gaming. I said before, this laptop is a unicorn for those who need a laptop like this - light, compact, 2in1, 13in touchscreen with graphics that isnt a lame Iris which almost all (if not all) 13in 2in1s have. G14 is a better laptop for the $ if you dont care about the 2in1 touchscreen.
Battery life is "ok", sometimes windows search bar disappears when you start typing, sometimes laptop boots into bios for no reason on startup, a usbC bios updated nearly bricked all my usbC ports for some reason (forgot how i undid it). My only gripes. Coming from a HP 13in spectre, this 16:10 screen is great. I dont think i can do another 16:9. I have the ROG port capped off with a 3d printed piece except for the usbC portion of it to get another usbC port on this laptop. Using it with a wacom bamboo ink pen for drawing/graphics.
its basically the same as the ROG ally in terms of gaming performance, so if they call that thing a gaming device, this counts.

its an ROG ally minus the controllers but add the keyboard and a larger screen

Is the case / lid of this thing actually textured / ribbed? Or is that appearance just created by a paint job?

I wild highly recommend uninstalling the Asus Armory Crate software and use GHelper instead. Less bloatware and better performance and battery management.

Man I want to buy this so bad. When I'm out an about this things is great for playing a quick round of drg survivor, starcraft 2 or some cnc generals. The gpu can definitely handle older aaa titles. I just wish it had a little more ram given it's soldered.

Werent you debating between the two? That's what your post makes it seem like.

The T14s with 7840u is pretty damn close to an x1. Id like to see a direct comparison on terms of size/weight/build quality.

Wish there were more high quality windows laptops to choose from. Thinkpad is still king for windows devices.
how is thinkpad king of anything? lenovo has watered it down to just another mediocre brand full of bugs. the AMD versions are trash starting with 3rd gen because of the horrible soldered wifi cards

I have the Legion Go, which I would consider a gaming handheld.... but I would not consider these specs gaming for a laptop/desktop. It's a tradeoff for size, one I'm perfectly ok with, but it is a tradeoff.

also, soldered RAM is an insult.

Making unsupported statements on the Interwebs is the crime here.

The 780m GPU is pretty good. It isn't on a physically separate card (what you call "dedicated"), but it is its own chiplet on the CPU substrate.

As far as how it compares to "dedicated" GPUs, it compares pretty favorably vis-a-vis Intel's 8-core ARC "dedicated" GPU, but it's a lot slower than a low end NVidia GPU like the 3050. So it's not a question of "dedicated" or not; it's a question of "does it play the games that I want to play fast enough?"

And for me the answer is "no". I'd consider a 2k screen to be the bare minimum acceptable, and a 3070 or 4070 to be the bare minimum for a GPU. But I wouldn't care one iota whether something was "dedicated"; I'd much prefer a 4090 as a chiplet on a CPU substrate than an Intel ARC as a "dedicated" card (not that such a 4090 option exists).
Go easy on him. He just got out of cryostasis from 2008.

For people wondering on this point, I play Elden Ring on mine just fine and the 120Hz screen is awesome (means I don't have to have a gaming monitor and instead can stick with my work monitors).

This is basically similar to Asus Ally extreme model in gaming performance, but actually in the form factor of a 2-1 convertible laptop. I think it is a fairly decent price imho. It's a great laptop for everything from work to low-moderate intensity gaming. It's also Wacom AES pens compatible (ie surface pen would work). I have the 3050 model last year and I use it everyday. If I didn't and still in the market, I would probably go for the 4060 model for 1500, but this one is literally less than half the price, albeit a much weaker GPU.

It's not "gaming" in realm of laptops because of all the options out there especially in this price range, but it is gaming in the sense that it technically runs the same thing ROG ally and Legion can run.

These make me hopeful that we'll see M11x like gaming netbooks again. I love the 11" format and these powerful APUs are perfect for it

X1 carbon, T(s) and X (s) series laptops are still the best ultrabook or non-gaming windows laptop you can buy.

ALL laptops have some bugs, but the build quality on Thinkpads are still great.

Name something better.
