The only downside for a normal use case I could see would be that the knurling on the lower handles is pretty damn near non-existent. I put hockey grip tape on mine to fix it. The knurling on the raised handles is a lot better and probably wouldn't need grip tape, though it isn't an aggressive knurl.
I've used a Titan Fitness rackable hex bar, which was much nicer, but the price is also MUCH higher.
