Never.
I don't believe Ancestry proper has been hacked. Their subsidiary rootsweb was in 2017, but unlike 23 and me, they didn't blame their customers for their system's security failure. I know plenty who have done Ancestry and found blood relatives they didn't know they had. So, and easy recommendation for Ancestry, especially at this price!

not iris scans, not fingerprints, and certainly not DNA
you can't change it if its compromised
ever
and you don't know how this will be used in the far future
certainly don't want to do it if you're Jewish
I don't know if it was just a 80's stranger-danger thing, but in elementary school all of our fingerprints were taken.
Sell it to the highest bidder? Whats that China? You'd like the genetic makeup and location of millions of Americans? What could go wrong with that? You wouldn't do anything bad with that information would you? Cause you know, you could make some pretty "specialized" weapons. No thanks

Also the recent GM Smart Driver debacle (TLDR: GM vehicles were secretly spying on ppl and sending info to insurance companies, who identified them and raised rates) is an interesting parallel regarding insurance/privacy concerns. Those GM drivers (myself included, bought a new Camaro!) never thought our info could possibly be secretly sold off to insurance companies to be used against us. When it comes to DNA, we can't even imagine how this stuff could be used against us in the future.
This is all US government's plot to get as much biometrics information as possible for Big Brother state.

There is serious concerns brewing that 23andme is in serious financial trouble and will get bought out for their trove of DNA they have on so many people.
I mean I live in New York state and been on probation it's mandatory you give your DNA if you're on probation so I guess it really doesn't matter much
