It has never been posted here at that price. The lowest for new was $1050 and open boxes are hardly available and very YMMV. He probably just got lucky with one, that's all.

The Legion Slim 5 14.5 OLED deal last week for $850 is honestly a much better deal.

G14 dimensions: 0.64 by 12.2 by 8.7 inches
Legion dimensions: 0.84 by 12.9 by 9.9 inches

G14 weight: 3.3 pounds
Legion weight: 3.85 pounds

The Legion does have a slightly larger screen though which is nice.

G14 has all aluminum build, the Legion has a plastic interior.

G14 has G-Sync while Legion doesn't.

G14 has significantly better speakers.

Is that worth an extra $300? Up to the buyer, just pointing out the differences. I'd say no but it's close.

All that said, a few months ago the Legion was $1050 at BB and Slickdeals had a $150 eBay coupon and to my surprise it worked on the Legion making it $900. At a $450 price difference that makes going with the Legion a LOT easier, but I haven't seen that since. I'm a little mad at myself for not jumping on it.

Yeah I edited my post after realizing I left that out. I agree I would go with the Legion for most buyers. For me, I'd go with the G14 at a $300 difference probably but I'm crazy and value speaker quality a lot and Gsync.

Whoever got it for $900 absolutely stole it.
If money weren't a factor, I'd also go for the G14. But then again if money weren't a factor I probably wouldn't be on slick deals in the first place lol. Ultimately you can't go wrong with either laptop though.

Really comes down to preference when you compare the g14 to the slim 14. In terms of performance both are similar but the g14 has better construction, thunderbolt, gsync, better speakers, brighter display, better keyboard layout (preference I know), larger trackpad, facial recognition, slightly better and more efficient processor, and better resale.

If you're going open box get the Lenovo 100% Lenovo offers way cheaper extended warranty on Best Buy open box where asus does not. Really up to you if the extra couple hundred bucks is worth those extra features.

Wasn't there a deal at BB on a G14 for around $999 a couple weeks ago? Maybe that was the 2023 version?

If portable is priority, which I think small screen laptop is all about, g14 is no brainer. My previous setup was ultrabook + egpu. G14 feels about lightweight and upscale as a ultrabook. Not so much about legion

That was the 2023 version. Not sure if the "new" sale price is $1200 that's what it was the last couple of weeks. Maybe they're doing that to try and get people to buy the new model instead. If you need 32gb of ram (it can be upgraded unlike the 24 model) that would be the one to buy. I would skip the 23 4070 model altogether (it sometimes comes back in stock) it's really bad value for 10% gpu performance and 1tb drive it's like $700 more. Another option is the 23 g16 but that also has some flaws being ddr4 and 1200 resolution if that matters to you.

Size, build and sexiness do matter. I don't need a laptop but really dig this 2024 G14? I think Asus has pretty good QC unlike Dell right? I haven't found any glaring long term owner complaints.

Do you think this will drop again to the same price or lower through August?

I need to purchase 3 of these for my sons for college in the fall.

Don't know if I should grab them now or wait...

Already settled on getting them this laptop.

I own the 4070 32GB version which I really like.

This is a good buy, not the best buy.

I'd see myself out now.

I would buy it if it has upgradable ram. It's literally a downgrade from the 2023 version

This is a good first step into the whole 'macbook-like' chassis design, but it's still not that great. It still feels kinda fragile. The cooling system is still very subpar and the wobbly screen is just straight up terrible. Razer has the chassis part down better, even though their internals are trash quality and don't last.

There are reviews that show very inconsistent benchmarks, but those are caused by Armory Crate, all you have to do is install G-helper instead and it instantly makes it a better machine.

The speakers sound great and the OLED screen looks fantastic but I just don't trust Asus enough that this is really ready for primetime yet.

Godang just make 32GB standard for mid range laptops.

First manufacturer to do that and also step away from soldered ram will have a ton of market share captured.
